This Saturday 3-7pm. House PA. I'll bring a couple of Alto TS310s to add to two more that another player is bring for monitors.

We'll pay an opening acoustic set with the trio of old bandmates I've worked with a bit lately. I'll use my Recording King Series 11 Dread. Then the next two sets are full band: keys/vox, acoustic/vox, bass/vox, drums, and me on my, well, haven't decided yet between my Alligator Strat and my 52RI Tele. I'll sing as well. In the old days with this band I was always on a 72 Telecaster, so I'm leaning 52RI. BUT, dang, I just LOVE that Strat! Whatever I decide will be played through my minimal pedalboard and my Blonde Tone Master Twin Reverb.

Saturday will be a tough day.
From 11-noon I will be playing a memorial service for an old friend.
I'll play 3 hymns and then close the service with Here Comes the Sun🌞
A request of his wife and daughters❤️‍🩹

Then 2-5 playing a local winery only half hour drive. We were scheduled for 1-4, but when I explained my situation the woman who books us said "just start at 2" 😊

Assuming my next gig goes ahead according to plan, I'm considering bringing my Vintera Modified Tele or my Epi Casino. I'm torn as to which amp to bring -- my PRRI is probably best qualified, but it may end up being a quieter gig (plus we're bringing back an old bandmate I dislike that often wets the bed live -- I'm not the leader so it's not my choice -- so I don't know if I want to waste tube tone on that), so maybe my Vox Mini Superbeetle will make a rare live turn?

I wish you the best at the memorial, and my condolences on the loss of your friend.

I've done a number of memorials for family, and friends, and it is very difficult to do indeed. I've found that the memories of doing them are very, very warm though, and I'm extremely glad I did them, despite the difficulty and emotion in the moment.

Fri/Sat 2fer.

Fill-in drummer was supposed to play Fri, he's sick. Our drummer is going to do both days as best that he can. He simply can't get it through his head that even with one arm he's better (or a better fit) than any other drummer we've tried. Still, I understand his concerns. With his other disabilities it's difficult for him. I plan on toting all his equipment in, if I can get there before he starts unloading (stubborn old goat). I want to insure that he's as comfortable as possible to play both nights. I also have him coming over tonight for a good rub and then again Sat during the day for another pre-show rub. I give a mean massage :D

On to me, Fri is a nice club and the guys called for casual wear. Well, crap, I have casual but I like dressing up ... it's a quandry.

Oh well. Another gig cancelled. Leader, singer/songwriter has a bad, BAD case of bronchitis. Hope he gets better soon. Ultimately, the cancellation doesn't break my heart. Gonna exploit the day/night to its fullest with my wife.

My next, and last gig till after August due to an insane, and QUITE aggravating work schedule, is on St Patrick's Day. I'll be playing my 51RI P-Bass into a Quilter Tone Block 200, and a Bag End S12B cabinet loaded with an Eminence Kappalite 3012LF. Line up is fiddle/guitar/vox, accordian, guitar/vox, and me on bass/vox. Looking forward to this as we played this Irish Club for the first time on St Patty's last year and it was fantastic. They brought in step dancers from a very young age right up to adults and they were all wonderful.

Slainte!

I'm playing tomorrow evening at a benefit for one of our own. Our bass player lady, Teresa, beat breast cancer last year.

Her husband Rusty, who maintains our Facebook page and takes photos, was recently diagnosed with throat and tongue cancer. He's well known as a wrecker and truck driver in the area, so we're hoping for a good turnout and lots of money raised. He's already undergoing treatment, so he has a feeding tube... and the past year has been a hard road for a couple I love dearly.

What I'm playing through doesn't matter at all.

Pray if you're so inclined, all positive thoughts are welcome. My band family IS my family because I'm fresh out otherwise.

First *paying* gig in a while: Thursday/ Friday / Saturday at a local high school, playing in the pit for the annual musical. I'm on Guitar 2. Will be playing my Gretsch through my pedalboard into a Katana 50 Mk1. We've rehearsed every day this week and this just might come together for opening night. Let's just hope the predicted snow event doesn't hit.

Starting to get some new bookings. All originals band, mission improbable? We’ll see.

Tomorrow night, small pub, just 5 minutes from my house. I’ll be playing flattop and tele. Venue has nice PA. I’ll be running tele through small board and SF Princeton.

Unfortunately, our wonderful bass recently had a heart attack; he’s ok! He’s a fine person, full-time pro, plays in one other band. Fortunately, his wife has family health insurance. He needs to make some lifestyle changes. We’re rooting for him.

But, he’s going to miss a month of two of gigs? We just don’t know yet.

We have a St. Patrick’s Day gig as well, another small venue and two summer gigs booked. Working on it.

We play as a trio(bass, guitar and vocal) for a winery gig. We get paid and are treated well, but it's mostly background.

I'll bring a tele, a jazz box and play through my 6l6 amp. I've played the last few gigs with a Celestion neo V type in the amp. I really liking it. Saturday will be first time I try it for a quiet jazz gig.

I'm going to bring this one out once more in a few days, even though I'm only going to use it on one song. The octave mandolin neck will have the two highest courses tuned to thirds. (D/F on top, F/A on the "A" course.)
It must weigh near 7 lbs and fits in this charvel gig bag that's not even meant for a double neck.

This next week is going to be a treat for me and my audiences, since my sax-playing brother is coming for a visit. I've lined up five gigs at assisted living centers that we'll play as a duo. My rig will remain pretty constant: '06 Epi Sheraton through either my TMDR or '79 Vibrolux Reverb, with a Roland GK3 pickup's output run through a Roland GR30 guitar synth, into a Mackie Pro FX8 mixer then through a Bose L1 Compact PA. Vocals will be a Sennheiser E835 mic into a Digitech Live Vocalist 3, then into the PA. Brother's instrumentation will be a Selmer Reference 54 Tenor and an Armstrong flute through a matching Sennheiser mic into the PA. We'll be playing a mix of songs that will be enhanced by his playing, mainly 50s, 60s and 70s pop and rock, Classic Country, some Motown, a bit of blues and jazz, and some old Standards.
