Little shop up the way has DRRI with a Celestion Gold in it. Just beautiful combo. Makes it sound like a Super Reverb. I used to hate them. In fact, I used to put greenbacks in my Supers, Princetons etc, but, in my defense, they sounded great on crunchy/solo stuff. That alnico clean sound is to die for though...

There is something magical about alnicos.
(note: I have an alnico in mine)

You should say try an Alessandro SC64 speaker in one.

Thanks to Uriah, I also have a 12" Celstion Cream alnico in a PRRI SE. The sound is huge (90w, 100db) and gorgeous. Another benefit is that the breakup tones from an OD pedal are smooth and lush, best I've ever gotten.

I have an Alessandro SC64 in my DRRI and it is great if you need loud. I can't turn the amp (on tilt back legs) up past 2.5 without hurting my ears. For gigging clubs with a drummer I imagine it would be great.

I, too, love alnico speakers. My 59 Bassman reissue has four 10" Jensen P10r speakers, my 65 Princeton reissue has a Celestion Gold 10" alnico speaker. I have a Fender 2X12 speaker cab with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers in it, another Fender speaker cab with a Jensen P15N alnico in it, and another Fender speaker cab with a single Celestion Gold 10". My Vox AC15 has a 12" Vox Bluedog alnico 12" in it. I have other amps with other types of speakers in them but I always prefer an alnico speaker to anything else.

Have big mag ribbed 12" alnico pulled from an Ampeg J20 for my tweedy cab...glorious...warm, big and lush and it beat out about 1/2 dozen other alnico and ceramic spkrs.

Another thanks to Uriah! I bought a Jensen neo off Uriah quite a few years ago (ebay sale if I recall correctly). Stuck it in a deluxe reverb. I have been happy with it. Haven't tried a celestion gold. A must do sometime!

I really love the alnicos I'm using in my amps -- a pair of Altec 417-8C's in my Twin Reverb and a pair of Weber Alnico Blue Dogs in my Hayseed 30. I can see preferring a ceramic speaker for different amps, but the Hayseed 30 and Twin Reverb really shine with alnicos.
