Got into Herb Alpert thru the dog town and zboys movie. Soon I discovered Baja Marimba Band. Check them out too.

When I was in high school a couple of geeky looking guys who were in the "dance band" approached me to play in a Tijuana Brass band. I initially told them no, but they told me that they had gigs! It ended up working out. I learned a lot about ensemble playing from them and in the long run it made me a better player. I still listen to it. It was good stuff that I believe the Wrecking Crew was responsible for. In fact I'm going to listen to "A Taste of Honey" on the way home.

Laugh at me also because I'm guilty of being a fan.

I loved the band, and sent a lot of time staring at a certain Tijuana Brass album cover....

Great band. For the times when Miles and Coltrane are too heavy.

I loved them for one reason only. I come from a family of 10 kids and Mom was always in a bad mood. If you put Herb on she’d be dancing around the house with a smile on her face in no time. She might even make dessert!

All good stuff. Incidentally - Herb was the 'A' in A&M records before they sold to Polygram.

In a similar vane, there's Herb's marimba player, Julius Wechter and his Baja Marimba Band ! !

Love the bass movement throughout that song!

Nothing to laugh at, and I think you got more fans than laughs because of your confession. :)

Drummer in my first band liked them a lot. He had the tape reels all filled with recordings of Herb & Co. and kinda winced every time we wanted to record over them.

My drummer had about the third shortest haircut in the whole high school, and he would wear clothing in Houndstooth when the rest of us were trying to look like the Rascals or Vanilla Fudge. He actually had and wore, those deerslayer hats, Scouts Honor!! :^)

Worlds biggest selling trumpet player. When you consider that Armstrong is probably the one you’d expect, herb has done very well. And yep he’s awesome.
