So I've always been a strat guy, but I've always liked teles too. And since I got back into playing a lot about three years ago, I've owned a few teles, some just for a few days and returned, a couple for a few months, and my last one for almost a year. And I like them a lot. And if there wasn't a strat hanging next to them on the wall, I'd be happy to play a tele all the time. BUT, there's always a strat hanging on the wall and the teles die of neglect. I bought a roadworn tele almost a year ago. I gushed about it here and i meant every word. It had such an amazing neck, as nice playing a neck as I've ever had. LOVED it. Played it a lot for a while. But gradually I just went back to grabbing the strat all the time. I'd pick up the tele every now and then because I owned it, I ought to PLAY it. And I'd like it, but I'd put it back and grab the strat and not touch it again for weeks.

So I've finally come to terms with who I am. I'm just a strat guy. There's no sound that I want to get out of an electric guitar that I can't get from a strat, and some strat sounds I can't get from anything else. I'd long since sold all of the humbucker and P90 guitars I'd dallied with. I don't like choices, so I'm just gonna have one strat on the wall and one in the closet as a backup. Then I never have to think about WHAT guitar to play, but just what to PLAY. I had one electric and one acoustic for about 25 years - I'm quite sure I can do more or less the same thing again.

So within the last week I sold that Roadworn - it was an awesome guitar and I hope the new owner loves it and gives it a great home. All I gave it was a massive heaping of neglect. It deserves better. I'll be around because I like it here and lord knows we discuss much more than telecasters. But if you ever hear me start talking longingly about some new tele that's caught my eye, do me a favor. Smack me hard about the head and face until I start to think straight again. Don't let me do this to myself and another innocent telecaster ever again!!!!

I have one strat, one tele, one LP, and one Casino. I rotate them. I find that when I put one down and pick up another, for an hour or so I am missing the best qualities of the previous one. If I put down a strat or a tele and pick up the LP, the LP sounds dull. But after I get used to it, it sounds glorious. If I put down the LP and pick up the Casino, at first I miss the sustain of the LP. But in a bit, the Casino sounds magical in the combination of its acoustic sweetness and P-90 growl. I like them all. But I guess you just like strats.

Lol I'm the same in reverse. I've had 9 strats and some were really nice ones. I've gotten rid of all of them and know now that I just need a Nashville in my tele collection.

    It's okay.
To each their own, I have been known to say.

Me, I love Teles and Strats.

And Duo Sonics, and P-Basses, and Gibson Les Pauls, and Yamaha Revstars, and Ibanez semi-hollows, Framus pawn shop prizes, Austin copies, and, and, and..

    Well, you get the picture.
    I love guitars.

    :)

I like lots of guitars. But I just seem to PLAY strats when there's one there. And I hate thinking about gear and getting it down to a manageable number of ONE has always been a fine way for me to avoid doing so...

I'm weird that way. I've even been called a SICKO! Right here in this very thread!

I love teles and strats and semi hollows and Les Pauls with P90s and all manner of other guitars also. I just don't seem to PLAY anything but strats when there's one within reach. And there's always one within reach...

I thought it was most odd that you said you “don’t like choices”. To each his own. :)

I think I'm both a Strat and Tele guy. But the Strat is a better guitar.

Fair enough. I feel the same about my couple of Strats and a Les Paul. I love the idea of them and I’m glad to have them in the flock. But for me Teles just fit.

    Stick around!

I mostly played an ES345 and a 335 for 25 or 30 years. Then I fell in love with one particular Tele, then I slowly warmed up to Stratocasters. I went through a Les Paul phase a few years ago and I've always had a Jazz box or three around. I had to accept I love them all for what they are but there's nothing wrong with knowing what you like and being loyal to it! I have an old friend that has many guitars but I've never seen him gig with anything but a Strat since the '60s.

I saw that Road Worn for sale on AGF. I should have bought it. I just bought a used amp, one that I had been looking for for a while, so I decided to wait until the next morning and see if I was still hot on it. It was gone. Whoever got it did good.

Teles aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. They are probably the most unforgiving guitar that has ever been made. But I consider the Telecaster the best guitar that has ever been made. If it weren’t for the Telecaster I would never own a Fender guitar.

This is clearly an excellent place to say:

"Isn't a tele just a strat without the silly wobbly thing?"

    :p

You're lucky! You know what you like! Way to go! But I won't dissuade you if you say you wanna buy a tele.... sorry it would be against basic principles :p

I had been playing everything except my Stratocaster for awhile and then picked it up. It was nice. But so are the Telecasters. This is the Three Amigos. 878BB27D-A7A0-4D2F-9C0E-F7CA54573869.jpeg
