I get weekly allergy shots. I also had an ear doctor appointment today. Smart me I decide to get my shot before the appointment and save a second trip and avoid going out any more than I have to.

Arrive an hour before Dr. Appointment and am informed Medicare does not allow shots and appointment on the same day. I'm sitting in my car reading Blazer's B-17 thread and otherwise killing an hour posting this rant.

    Stupid rules.

This is so they can charge you for two full office visits; otherwise, insurance / Medicare might push back. That is my view, anyhow.

I'm sitting in a car 30 minutes from home? Might get amp turned on before I have to come back. Perhaps it might have been a better option

unixfish is right. It has something to do with the doctor billing Medicare. (or supplement) Doctor's office visits are WAY down right now, and they're scrambling to find ways to maximise income.
Those vacation homes in Aspen aren't gonna pay for themselves......

Another small point......Medicare is an easy target for the doctor's staff, and you can rarely verify or disprove what they say. They'll blame Medicare (the government) for ANYTHING if it suits their purpose.

A couple years ago I went to an eye appointment. Regular vision check and retinal photo for pre-diabetes. Did the thing where they blow the air in your eye for glaucoma. I hate that.

Eye place informs me that Ohio law won't allow two different insurance companies billed in the same appointment for different things. I'd have to come back for the retinal photo. I'm not too happy, but I look at the upside and say "at least I won't have to get the air blown in my eye!" Reply from eye lady, "Oh... yes you will. Even if you came back an hour from now, the law is that you have to have the air thing."

I don't know if those really are the laws or not. Whatever it is, it's stupid.

I'm surprised they did not throw in HIPAA as well. Doctors / Doctor staff in our area throw that around any time they don't want to do something.

Can I have a copy of my next appointment reminder? "No, because of HIPAA."
Can I borrow your pen? "No, because of HIPAA."
Can you set up a follow up appointment? "No, because of HIPAA."
Can I use your restroom? "No, because of HIPAA."
Can I park my car in your lot during my appointment? "No, because of HIPAA."
Let me get that document from my car. "No, because of HIPAA."
Can someone please get new magazines? "No, because of HIPAA."
Can someone please clean the lobby? "No, because of HIPAA."
Can someone shovel the snow from the sidewalk? "No, because of HIPAA."
Am I exaggerating? "No, because of HIPAA."

I call BS. They probably can charge full fare for that test, so their policy is to do it even if you come in to use the restroom.

...that, and I rarely have the air test done at the eye doctor, and I'm in Ohio. Probably not far from @rodger.

Our insurance company was faxing (why do they still use those?) documents to my wife's doctor. Her doctor had switched practices years ago. They number they faxed her medical history to was a landscaping company. That is what HIPAA is supposed to protect us from. But no - because it was a medical staff that did it, they claim it did not apply.

    Sigh. Morons.

Welcome to my work world. Lol

I do customer service for a major health insurance company. 12 weeks of classroom training before I could talk to customers.

Lots of details involved and lots of bad info coming from doctors offices.

LOL! Now that was funny. I don't think they would let me walk in just to use the rest room, but now I'm thinking this is how it would go...

ME: Can I use your rest room?
THEM: Sure! Just put your face in this machine, give me a major credit card and your vision insurance.
ME: ?????? OK, cause I really gotta go!

There’s a lot of waste in American healthcare. Medicare, which is a good thing, unfortunately covers less and less patients and pays out less and less for services.

Amazing. Here’s a “bash-the-healthcare professionals“ thread in the middle of a pandemic.

    (sigh)

I’m still trying to get my head around why you showed up an hour early to the doctors appointment.
