"Ohio" is a protest song and counterculture anthem written and composed by Neil Young in reaction to the Kent State shootings of May 4, 1970, and performed by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. It was released as a single, backed with Stephen Stills's "Find the Cost of Freedom”. Young wrote the lyrics to "Ohio" after seeing the photos of the incident in Life Magazine.

To all our social justice fighters.
May you have the strength, the stamina, and the charity to understand and love others, even in the midst of chaos and evil!!!
Love, peace, and joy to all peoples!!!

Feedback is much appreciated. Thank you.

Another great tune performed excellently. One of my favorite protest songs of the era.

I’m no Stills, but I still couldn’t keep myself from throwing in some backing screams of “MORE” there at the end!

That incident has always disturbed me greatly. Having served in the Army and National Guard im pretty sure I would’ve ended up in fort Leavenworth for refusing to fire on college kids were I there..

Good job!

I was still in junior high school when this happened, and the massacre and the protests in general, left quite an impression on me. My older sister had just started college at Florida State and she marched in some local protests - but no one was shooting at her. A dark day for sure.

Neil nailed the angst.

This seems a bit upbeat for this song. Ohio IMO, really deserves that dark D modal driving feel. Just my honest opinion. Good on you for sharing your take though.
HI Mike,
I have to agree with you, Mike.
The next time I sing this particular song, I will remember your suggestion, to slow it down, and drive the darkness of this message.
I am so thankful for the great feedback!
Respectfully,
Rene

I like all your stuff Rene. You're very talented.

But I too thought it was a little too upbeat. Maybe because the song always gave me the shivers and it was a very dark day - even though I was barely old enough to understand it at the time. But I saw those pictures in Life magazine too. I heard the reports. Just thinking about it gives me chills, even today.

You are so appreciated @M2roadwarrior !
Fort Leavenworth is better than carrying the load of killing some innocent kids.
Thank you for this great feedback!
Always a pleasure to hear from you, my friend!

Hi @Boreas ,
Truly, a dark day!
And what a time to be out there, especially knowing your sister os out and about.
And the thing is, we have not learned the lesson.
Thank you for your wonderful feedback!!!
NY nailed the angst, indeed.

A dark time to grow up! Great music - but two assassinated Kennedys, MLK, Kent State, Democratic Convention, race riots, and all the while, neighbors being drafted and quietly brought home in body bags for a DECADE. Likely worse for my parents with the Depression and WW2, but kinda makes the problems of today look pretty tame. The Space Race, Beatles and Chicago were the bright spots for me. Didn't appreciate Neil Young until I was in college, but CSNY came first in high school.

Hi @Boreas ,
You are so appreciated, my friend.
I can imagine the state of affairs during the time, and especially for your parents with the Depression and WW2 , indeed!!!
"For a decade" what a horrible thing to think about, being brought home in body bags, but it's true.
Stay well, and keep healthy, @Boreas !!!
With much love and respect,
Rene
