It's a very appropriate guitar for this sort of thing. I tried to use my Epiphone archtop and even my telecaster, but they just don't fit the theme in this one. The guitar is my Kala (of ukelele fame) thinline nylon-string a/e, played through a Boss acoustic singer amp. Of course, it's all somewhat futile to try to record all that nice gear on a damn phone, but it's all I have at the moment.

I don't pretend to be particularly good at this sort of thing, and it takes a lot of nerve to post this on a forum made up of so many superb amateur and professional career players, but life is short, and getting shorter, so I'm trying to subscribe to a more or less 'just do it' philosophy where it comes to artistic expression, musical and otherwise. I have nothing to lose, but it's taken many decades to understand that, in my case.

Oh, and that 'old folky' could back off the reverb a tick or three.

that is excellent! don't worry about the reverb, it sounds great just the way is.

nice guitar, and well played. What kind of strings are those?

I see you are using those Alaska finger-picks (is that the right name?) I have a set and I have been struggling with them. Do you have any tips or advice to share?

    Thank you!

I have been using Alaska picks exclusively for at least ten years. You'll need to maintain at least a short length of natural nails to keep them secured during playing, unlike traditional steel fingerpicks. They are made to a rather long length, but can be trimmed back to suit ones preferences by clipping or sanding them. I used to shorten them somewhat, but have been using them full-length in recent years.

One more thing, I wish they also came in clear plastic, rather than just that hokey 'flesh'(?) color.

They take some getting used to, as all fingerpicks do, but I barely notice them anymore.

    This.

I'm sure there are a great number of guys on the forum who would benefit from playing out, recording themselves, joining a band, taking their music to an audience, in whatever way. The initial hurdles can seem great but the rewards can be immense.
