It's a LeSplatocaster: the entire motor is mounted on a plastic plate just like a Strat, and screws to the body.

Is Gibson cutting corners Much? "Lets make a Gibson on the details of a strat , and give it a cone head , head stock. think any one will notice?", "Oh Yeah , sell it for about 3000.00 every kid will want one"

I'm not a Les Paul guy, so cut me some slack, but I wouldn't mind that headstock on Les Paul jr. I will say that guitar isn't gonna make me run out and get one. It definitely has that Marauders vibe to it and I don't mean that as a compliment.

Just so folks don't think these are new designs-
- some had Lawrence pickups and electronics; all maple ( heavy!) bodies.
Bolit-on necks ( Think)
it is reminiscent of the L6S but I can only envision it in maple , the sunburst never looked good to me. that was a student model for the time i think , the L6S did not have the cone head, head stock though

while scouting on the net I came across this site , some beautiful head stocks and inlays ( I know its a side bar , I hope no one minds)

I don't know if I should admit I kind of like it.

Although I prefer the aforementioned idea of a Flying V headstock on a Les Paul Jr. I'd take two of those.

I wish they would do a proper limited reissue of the Marauder or S-1 though. This kind of just looks like someone briefly glanced at an artistic rendering of a Marauder, put together a prototype, and said, "Eh, good enough."

Reminds me of the plainer/simplified PRS models. Like a single cut version of a Mira or some of the S2 styles.

But that headstock...woof. I like it on a V, but it looks terrible here.

Somebody at Gibson had better warm up the tank, because they're going to have a pile of these leftover in not-too-distant future.
