    'Hog body/sitka top.

Have a lil 7/8 size all-'hog guitar that I play fingerstyle in open tunings. It's a sweetie.

One small update I had to share -

I sent off a note to Joel Bauman at CME to say how happy I was with the guitar, and he sent this back:

"Glad you love it! Not that it matters, but I almost sold your 00-18 two weeks ago to Marcus Mumford (& Sons). He said it was the loudest small-bodied Martin he'd played but ended up passing because we had a couple '40s Gibsons he fell in love with too. It's just a sneaky all-timer of an small-body Martin. And things are just fantastic, thanks for asking! It snowed all day yesterday and now it's 60 degrees out, so that's cool.

    -Joel"

So the last person to play my guitar before I got is was Marcus Mumford?!? That's about as close I'll ever get to that kind of musical coolness. Just, no one tell the guitar it had the chance to be in a really cool band... o_O

I love Martin guitars, especially those that have been around for a while. Hope you get many years of playing out of it! If you get the neck reset done, be damned careful who works on it. I've had good guitars ruined by so called experts, even those with outstanding reputations. When it comes to interpreting what's good, and what's good enough, only you can judge.

Thanks, TD! As it turns out, it got the whole shooting match. Neck reset, frets, nut and bridge. It sounds amazing. I'm still shocked at loud it is, every time I pick it up.

LOL! I was almost suspicious of the serial number as it was :) The thing is, someone out there actually has 222222. That would be very cool.

Thanks, BB. It really is a bucket list item for me and I'm glad about how it worked out.

Thanks! I'm convinced (with my experience of one whole old guitar, lol) that old wood makes a huge difference. It is super comfortable to play - so yeah, the blues is on the menu for sure! Seems tailor (no pun intended) made for fingerstyle blues.

    14 fret double-O with butter beans !

    Love it.

A neck reset on a Martin older than 25-30 years is exactly the same as a cap job on an old tube amp.

    Necessary maintenance.

Shaved bridges happen - and sometimes for a reason but neck resets are part of responsible ownership.

I just hope that I can be a good steward during the time that I get to say I own it, and that I can someday pass it along in condition as good as I got it. I do love vintage instruments, and that's not just guitars. The trumpet and trombone I played through high school and beyond are from 1916. They even smell different, if you can believe it.

Now you've got me worried. I have a 40-yr-old Fender acoustic. Might it need a neck reset?

Fender “acoustic” = Martin “electric” so - no.

If ya love it though , it’s worth whatever you want to do to it/for it.

I had an expert complete refret done on a 1992 MIM Tele neck so - wudda wino ?

That’s a very cool guitar and I believe ya on the tone and volume. I’ve played a number of old 00 and 000 Martins the last few years, kinda looking because even though I’m a Gibson flattop guy I do love those smaller Martins.
