What do you think are some often, over looked, excellent westerns? Do not post Unforgiven, Josey Wales, or Tombstone haha.

For me it is The Red Headed Stranger. This movie to me is 10 out of 10 stars. It has it all. A great plot, emotional, good acting, and just overall well done.

The way it weaves through the beginnings with hope then followed by complete loss. Moving to a state of giving up and killing, working all the way back to finishing what was started and redemption.

I hadn't watched it in 6 years. The last person I watched it with has passed away and he loved it the same. Wished I could watch one more time with him.

When he runs the bay off at the end and you just think "he's finally finished with his pain and can let it go."

"It was the time of the preacher
In the year of O one.
And just when you think it's over.
    It's only begun."

So what's some over looked westerns, or really, movies in general?

Don’t hear much about them so I guess they’re a little overlooked.

I search for newly added Westerns on YouTube daily.
There's always a few new old ones updated several times a week.

    Comancheros
    The Revengers
    Dead Mans Burden
    Shane

Not westerns but Jeremiah Johnson and The Mountain Man 1980 are good movies.

A couple i've watched in the past few days.

Wel it looks like I have some westerns to watch but I do have breaking news...

Regarding a western I seen when I was maybe 12 or younger even. I've been trying to remember the name for years and searched movies but to no avail. I'm pretty sure I even asked y'all in a thread or post before. All I knew about it was a group of people from a crashed stagecoach were in a canyon and were fighting indians overhead.

Just now did a search and I have found it.....Dakota Incident (1956). Can't believe I found it.

I'll second the vote for Quigley Down Under, and give one for The Man From Snowy River. Also set in Australia, it's a bit of a roller-coaster as far as the plot goes, but what makes it for me is the good ol' fashioned spot-on horsemanship. I'm not a "horse guy", and don't often notice such things, but when you have a man and his horse acting in absolute concert like that and it's in a movie, you you can't help but notice.

Another vote for open range , that is one of my favorites!

Most of my favorite are John Wayne so it’s hard to say if any of those are over looked...but my favorites are
    The shootist
    Big Jake
    The searchers
The man who shot liberty valence

Hang 'em High. One of the first films I became aware of Bruce Dern. Clint Eastwood stars, but Bruce steals all the scenes he's in.

Every time I see that Hang 'em High is on TV, I have to watch it. Can't help myself.

The other I recommend that hasn't been mentioned yet is High Plains Drifter.

Thanks for the reminder about Redheaded Stranger. I've never seen it and it never seems to be available, but just now found it!
One of my favorite albums, now I'll finally get to see it.

Unforgiven. My favorite western of all times.

For fun, any of the Trinity movies mentioned above.
