I grew up wearing “cowboy hats” and ball caps. Blue jeans. Starched cotton shirts. Cut off sleeves in the Texas heat. It’s just who I am.
Never thought to much about it.
Just me being me..
My attire is everybody's Pet Peeve!
Basically, I dress to stay out of Jail.
Like Cargo shorts but not exactly stage wear- jeans are more appropriate.
As to Fedoras well they're fine for outside and protection from the sun.
I'm 47 and stopped playing out 10 years ago, but when I was gigging in Rock bands in the '80s-'00s, my belief was that everyone should dress as stylish as they could. For me that meant no shorts, no baseball hats, no kakhi pants. The goal was to score chicks by looking sharp, not get laughed at by looking like the neighbor kid who mows your lawn.
If I was in a band, and made the rules, I would be pretty open to fashion, since I have no sense of it, but I would ban dancing to your own guitar or keyboard solo. Singer would not be allowed to skip across stage either...just a couple of pet peeves of mine watching 80's videos.
Ha ha, that’s wrong!
You know it is really skinny tyres...
I wouldn't make that a strict policy.....
(the Surfrajettes... they're awesome! no affiliation...I wish!!)
Is that a man playing bass?
Well then, I’m a complete loser ...
I don’t play guitar in public - cos that would be, well, just silly.
However, if I did, and attuned to the sensibilities of my county of residence as I am, I'd probably wear something like this.
Some guys just don't want to admit that they're bald.
See: The Edge
This post was obviously started as a public service so that folks like you could over-react.
You say that now, but when the fat guy in your group decides to wear a bikini...
I doubt you'd find me playing, wearing a brimmed hat. A ball cap is a possibility if I need a sunshade. A beret, if there's some other reason to cover my head.
My goal is to always look sharp.
The times that I have played in shorts and t-shirt, (because it was an ultra-hot outdoor festival) I later regretted it, after looking at photos from the gig.
In my band, everybody shows up wearing what they feel comfortable in, but (usually) with a bit of rock and roll flair fashioned in.
The thing that most bands end up doing is loading-in all the gear and setting up the stage for sound-check, and bringing along fresh stage clothes to change into before the first set. And then running short of time, and so playing the gig in bummy clothes.
I have been guilty of this, and I can't say I'm proud of it.
The paying audience deserves better.
But every now and then it's hotter than balls out, and you gotta avoid heat stroke.
Cargo shorts and Fedoras would be a great name for a band / song / Album.
NOFX is just faux pauxing all over!
Hahaha!!! He is bald too.
