Obi Toto Kenobi as his name appeared in the American Kennel Club registry passed away yesterday at 1:00 PM PDST. He was Fifteen years, I month and sixteen days old at the time of his passing. We adopted Toto on the twenty sixth of September 2003. He would have lived with me for fifteen years in just over a month. He was a week shy of three months old when we first met.

Visiting relatives in Arkansas, we stopped off at a pet shop in North Little Rock called Arkie Barkie. I myself was not looking for an animal, my relatives were. I spotted little Toto in one of those little glass cases they display puppies in, for some reason I reached over and picked him up, he nibbled on my chin, and we bonded right then and there. I had never bought a house dog, though I had paid money for hunting dogs. When I found out the price our relatives thought I was crazy for even considering buying Toto. I wasn't considering it, I had already bought him in my mind.

My golfing partner once remarked that I liked Toto more than I liked him. He was right. Toto though a dog, was as good a friend as I have ever had in this life, and I don't have time enough left on earth to expect to find another.

As he appeared only a few days ago, momma had given him a bath and brushed him out. We had let his hair begin to grow back, because he was getting old and needed the warmth. I have begun my first day without you Toto and will miss you every day until I join you in the great beyond.

Sorry for your loss. Losing a dog is as hard as losing anyone.

I have experienced a great deal of loss in the last five years, I thought I had become better at accepting it, but I have not. Losing my friend Toto is especially hard, because he was always there to comfort me. I cannot begin to express the loss I feel today.

So sorry. I've been following your dog threads and knew this day was coming, and I actually dreaded it. You are on my mind and I'll say some prayers for you.

If you are familiar with Toto you know then that he lost his lifetime companion Bella back in March. Really he was never quite the same after she passed. He's spent more time at the vet in the last five months than he did in his whole life before that. Thank you for your condolences, and my best to you.

All of us that had longstanding pet relationships grieve along with you.

I still keep the picture of my last dog on the bookcase right next to where I'm sitting now, and that's been over 20 years ago. Never felt I had the time for another dog, and now I'm too damn old to tackle that, so mutter about the trouble and sneezing the two house cats are. (The wife always reminds me, accurately as she is apt, I'll be a very sad fellow if one skips out before I do - a coin toss at this point).
