In 1980, I was hitchhiking around the US and Canada with a friend. The last leg of the trip, we got a ride from a dude in a Torino from Sault Ste. Marie to Winnipeg. That’s two days, twenty driving hours. He had one 8 track tape: April Wine. He played it the whole way. I get a chill up my spine at any mention of that band.

If we can get KK/BBQ backing him up then we’re really on to something.

    Guess Who and the Band

Edit: with three of five members from Canada, couldn't Buffalo Springfield be considered a Canadian band? Even if they formed in LA ....

Other names evade me right now

IIRC The Band was not Canadian. They just played up there a lot.

Ok...with performer options, I'll add Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young.

Will also add some 'millennium' bands that I like; Broken Social Scene, Metric, and Arcade Fire.

Bands: Blue Rodeo are a sentimental favorite. (The Band obviously, but I think of them as a North American Band, rather than a Canadian band.)

People: Leonard Cohen above all others. Sorry Neil!

The skullet was not a flattering look for Kim.

His current look is more fitting and he looks a lot healthier too (every so often I see him out walking his dog)

Thinking about it I realize that I like a ton of Canadian bands/musicians, many of which have already been mentioned. Here are a few of my favorite Canadians that haven't come up yet.

    Wintersleep
    Small Sins
    Grimes
    Snailhouse
    Skinny Puppy
    Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Here's a great track from Wintersleep

Since most of you have covered the classics, some more contemporary, in no particular order:

    Protest the Hero
    Intervals
    Chromeo
    Devin Townsend Project

Oscar Peterson. (I may have listened to Rush more often, though).

Great list, I always forget Skinny Puppy are from BC.

Haven't seen Arcade Fire mentioned, and I really only like the first album, but it was a masterpiece.

Staying indie... I saw Metric above (big fan). Anyone mention Broken Social Scene?

These guys are mostly Canuck, easily my favorite if they count:

Recent-ish, FKA "Viet Cong," I have their first two records:

    Another 00s fave:
