Anyone here use 9s on their string through body Tele's. My new APT is set up with 10s and my fingers are on fire. Could be a combination of....not being able to put the guitar down, string gauge and age. I have a few sets of 9s laying around...reckon I'll install a set and see what the results are. My concern is with the jumbo frets and lighter gauge when making chords I don't to accidently bend a string or two out of tune.

D'addario offers a 9.5-44 set that I use on most of my Fenders. They feel closer to 9's but deliver tone closer to 10's.
Concerning your avatar: I once had collected every MAD magazine from Nov. 1954 to June 1966. The day I left for college, mom tossed the entire stack.

It's all up to your preferences. I've tried 9s on my Tele, and I just don't care for them - they just sound too thin to my ears. But again, that's personal preference.
I had to technical issues with them being on the guitar.
Pretty sure Billy Gibbons' preferred guage is 7s, so I'd expect that's what you would find on his Teles.

I used to have 9s on everything but my Jazzmaster came from Fender with 10s and I really enjoyed the extra resistance -- so now I play 10s on all my electric guitars including the Tele (which is string-through).
I do not think it sounds appreciably different but the feel is quite different.

I’m so heavy handed , I never even thought about going lighter than 10’s - but it’s such a small difference to 9’s , that if they feel better to you- give it a shot .

I go with 9's on 25.5 scale and 10's on 24.75. Works for me.

Used nothing else for more than 40 years. You may need to be a little more precise with your fingering, but that did me no harm.
Try it and see what you think.

9s on only one of my Teles…and they are top loaded.

No real difference in harshness on my fingers. Just a different string response.

I run 9s higher than 10s or 11s. They feel much better higher, IMO. They are easier to control, and can take more right hand abuse without deading/clanking out.

Always 9-42 on 25.5” scale for me. Just feels right.

10-46 on Les Pauls feels right.
