I've been looking for a smaller bodied acoustic for a year or so now. I've played dozens of guitars at two GCs and our local store, and kept being drawn back two a couple different models of Yamaha guitars.

About three weeks ago, I went into a pawn shop on a whim, and they had this

As far as I can tell, it's immaculate except for a small ouch on the back of the headstock. I didn't notice it till I got home and was cleaning and restringing it, and a dab of Old English would probably fix it up.

Otherwise I can't find a mark on it. The fit, finish, and action are superb.

It was ineptly strung; the top three strings were wound wrong and they all had uneven, overlapping winds.

It has a Yamaha passive undersaddle pickup, which works fine. I have extra clip on tuners, a Korg Pitch-black, and two or three acoustic DIs so I don't care that it doesn't have on board controls or tuner.

It plays quite well and so far I'm elated with it. I think they retailed for about $399. The shop had it marked $299, and they took $275 so I'm happy about that too.

Ive been off work since last Thursday, and go back tomorrow night. I always spend too much during my week off; once I went to Walmart for a blood pressure cuff and came out with a .22 rifle. (Hey, the gun was on sale--BP cuffs weren't. )
EDIT: I meant to point out that I went to the neighboring town for ethanol free mower fuel, and came home with a guitar I looked at three weeks ago. 😑

Anyway, this is only my second acoustic ever that isn't a dread, and I think I'm going to enjoy it.

Wow, that's a beauty. How would you describe its voice? Bright? Mellow? Love those open gears.
I liked the open tuners too.

It's no bass cannon; I would describe it as a bit like the Taylors I tried. It's clear and well-balanced, but not too bright.

The strings that came on it tuned up ok, but I couldn't deal with the childishly botched windings, so I changed them as soon as I got home. They were a bit heavier than what I use (Elixir Nano 10-47, I know, go ahead and make fun😆) so I lost just a bit of volume, but not enough to bother me. There's no buzz or issues anywhere on the neck, and the intonation seems perfect. When I find a serial number, I will try to find out how old it is.

The pawn shop guy plugged it into an ancient Peavey amp, just so I'd know the pickup worked. I'm anxious to try it through my old Ibanez Troubadour, or a powered speaker with a DI, and get acquainted. Alas, I have to go weedeat my yard before it starts raining tonight. I'll mess with it tonight and tomorrow and post more thoughts.

Arthritis starting in my knuckles - - my acoustics are super-lights too.

Balanced is good. As the upper end of my hearing is a bit wanting these days, I'm drawn to brighter guitars myself. I choose my strings accordingly. Nice action is more than half the victory. Happy playing!

That’s a cool little flattop!
Thanks! Yamahas and Takamines tend to punch way above their weight class for the money.

My ex-girlfriend's daughter had a little Yamaha A/E cutaway in Sand Burst that was probably my favorite guitar ever, until today.

I think Jakedog gigs with a Yamaha that also has the passive pickup, if I'm not mistaken. An LS 6 maybe? It might not be the same pickup system. In any event,
I'm hoping he'll see the thread and weigh in with his opinion on this model.

So far, I'm sure enamored of this one!
