Picked this up on the weekend - original wine coloured bought from original owner with very little wear!
Interesting this one has 1 Meg pots for both Vol and Tone.

Were 1 meg pots standard in 78? Or did the original owner put them in?

According to previous original owner the guitar is unmodified. I was puzzled too because I had the idea that all Fender single coil were accompanied by 250k pots... but then I did a little research and it seems like it was not unusual to have all 250 / all 1k or a mix!

I have a 78 as well, and the pots in that were also 1 meg. I have to be honest and admit that I changed them fairly quick.

1 Meg started to become standard from about 1969 until approx 1980...it apparently wasn't a random change but probably related to the increased use of higher powered amps live....1 Meg was reckoned to be more sensitive and less muffled than the 250 which had worked well with 15-40 watt tweeds etc.Regrettably I don't have a Marshall Super Major even a 70's twin to check this theory out with......;)
