was gifted these speakers earlier today. both 12" / 16 ohms / 50 watts / ceramic. seems like they're kinda high headroom and voiced to compliment one another in a marshall / vox type tone.

anyone on here using these? if so, what amp or guitars are you running through them? i'm happy with the speakers in all my amps currently, would love some input from the gallery before i proceed to experiment

I had a Blue Dog ceramic in a Deluxe Reverb years ago, as I recall it was a very good sounding speaker, no experience with the Silver Bell

Had a Blue Dog in a Blues Jr (that my son has now). Really like this speaker, brought out the el84/Vox side of the amp. Now have another Blues Jr with a Silver Bell in it and it's even better -- less jangle / sparkle, more growl. Both ceramic, both pretty efficient, did good things to open up that little amp. I would love to have that pair in a 2x12 open back cab -- in fact I have the cab, and will trade you the V30s in it for yours!

very cool, thank you! i've been considering either a princeton or deluxe reverb build for later this winter, was wondering how they might sound paired with a fender style amp. might just save me a trip to the speaker store lol

great intel, thank you! really cool that you + your son both play and get to share that

that's a hell of an offer but i've already got an orange 4x12 with all the V30s i can handle haha. i appreciate it regardless, thanks KC!

A steel guitar engagment.
I've had both but alnico versions. I swapped the blue dog almost immediately but never broke it in so I can't comment on the sound. Still have the Silver bell and it has worked as well as any speaker I've ever played thru including Vox, fenders, Marshalls and/or clones of the same.

I have a Weber Blue Dog 12" 50 watt in my Vox AC15 and love it. I also have a pair of Weber Californias in my Twin Reverb and love those. Never heard a Silver Bell, but there is no reason for me to think it is not good also. Webers are great speakers for the right application.

i've got a 12A125-A in my tweed deluxe and it sounds killer, only weber i've ever used to my knowledge though

I have an alnico silver bell in a 1x12 cab. I use it with a 20w marshall, a matchless, and a quilter. It’s comparable to a Celestion alnico gold. Sounds nice with all amps mentioned.

I've got the alnico 10" versions of these paired in a 2x10 cab that I usually run a Mesa Cali Tweed through. I love the sound I get from it, perfect little machine for what I mostly play (Neil Young, Tom Petty, CCR). Really smooth breakup and not overpowering, really emphasizes all the good about that amp. I've never run them individually in a 1x10 to speak to their individual talents.

I set my amp up for slight drive and then use an OD or fuzz when I want more and roll volume off when I want to clean up. Other speakers I've tried have had low end issues going one way or the other from where I set up. Some would flub out in the low frequencies when I added OD or they'd handle the OD fine but then thin out too much when I rolled volume back for clean. My favorite part about this pairing so far is that they go both ways from where I set up so I'm not having to tweak my bass knob all the time.

All that said, there's a lot of things different about 10" alnicos from what you've got there, so my ramblings might not be applicable to your situation at all.

I've had that combo, it was good!
The Silver Bell Ceramic on it's own is an overlooked speaker IMO. The Blue Dog can be pretty bright on it's own, but the combo works well.
Had the 10" versions in a Vibrolux once also.

Blue dog is killer. Had one in my Savage amp before I traded it for a Twin Reverb.

The Silver Bell is a little woofy. It sounded good paired with an Eminence GB128, but not so much when mic'ed and played through in-ear monitors. Needs to be brightened up, IMO. And the Blue Dog is supposed to do just that.

I have the 30 watt BD/SB pair in a 2x12 Bandmaster cab and they sound great with a '64 Bassman head. Alnico, light dope, handles 50 watts pretty well. I wouldn't push them too hard (esp. in an open back combo) but at moderate volumes they sound great.

i'm pretty well versed with celestions so this is a helpful comparison for me, thank you!

i love tweed amps and i generally run my settings fairly similar to yours: amp parked at edge of breakup, pedals to push it over the edge, volume knob to clean it up. can definitely venture a guess as to what larger ceramic speakers would do to the sounds that you're describing. very helpful, thanks so much!

good advice, thanks! definitely leaning towards the idea of running them together. would be interesting to try doing a close mic'd blend of the two speakers vs. having a single room mic a bit further out from the amplifier capturing more of the room / full picture of the amp

why's that? something about the breakup you don't like? would love to try them out with a fender circuit, good info thanks!
