It's just different. Not a Tube Screamer. Less distorty and more ampy.
I like the Soul Food too and use it for a little dirt in front of a Peavey Bandit 112. It's the only OD pedal I'm using at this time.
I use it as a clean boost at the beginning of the chain and it’s always on. The main overdrive I use is an OD808 which is second in the chain. If my OD808 ever fails (it hasn’t in about 18 years) the Soul Food can be used as a replacement OD. Good pedal.
My Soul Food got kicked off the board when I got a Walrus Audio Voyager in a trade. The Voyager has a much nicer gain stage IMO. It works great as a clean or dirty boost.
I thought mine kinda chopped off the low end response when I played down in the Duane Eddy area of the neck.
I went down to sam ash last weekend and tried out a few "mythical" pedals. I ended up with the tumnus. It's exactly what I needed. I also got to try out an aqua puss...I'm glad that I chose the carbon copy.
Timmy and Morning Glory are not related to Klon. Soul Food is related but it doesn't help much.
The klones you may want to try: Chellee Ponyboy v.3 ($119 - mass market pass to boutique pleasure), Rimrock Mythical Overdrive, RYRA Klone. Let me know if you need more options.
Other excellent klones include the MXR Sugar Drive and the Tone City Bad Horse. Timmy is a different circuit, but when used as a clean boost can be made to have a similar effect, imo.
