I saw a new builder on FB and talked with him about some strat pups. I got his 54 set. Wow! Unbelievable and I’m not blowing smoke. Superb quality.. well packaged and fast shipping. All hand wound by Mark in his garage. These hands down will rival any strat sets I’ve tried or owned. They are my favs by far. A 3 mags wound to about 6k. His bridge pickup is the best strat bridge I’ve ever played other than maybe my real 64 I had and it’s close. Good quack that is not thin. Middle nails that early Anson Funderburg tone. All the SRV and Ronnie Earl tone is there. And the neck is fat and nails that Jimmie Vaughan tone. Best part is they are 70.00 bucks a set. Now he’s making me a set of Blackguard Tele pickups. I believe in supporting small builders, but sometimes the tone is not there. Not with his strat pickups. I am looking forward to the Tele pickups. Mark is a super cool guy and I see him really taking off. I’m honored I was his first customer. I waited a few weeks to post to see if was the honeymoon phase... nope they are the real deal. I plan on using his pickups on all my El Ray builds. If you want to give him a try his website is below. Tell him Ray sent you.

Here’s my Black Guard set being built. I had him wind the neck hotter at about 7.9 k. I like a neck pup hot.

I noticed he doesn't specify Neck or Bridge on his P90's. Were vintage P90's just one spec for all positions?

Yes, 10k turns of 42 AWG is thought to be the standard recipe. It's kind of sad because all the pickup makers assume it's the gold standard and it can be hard to find underwound P-90s.

So what's good for the bridge is good for the neck with P90s?

He can do a custom set however you want. I asked for 8.2 on the bridge and 7.9 on the neck.
