Painful, as humor tends to be...
I finally completed my linkedin page with a picture and listing of my skills in 38 years operating a multimillion $ restaurant. Two days later I got an offer from Ledo’s Pizza in college park Maryland to wash dishes.
Dime a dozen
I'd apply for that!
Will they throw in some free food?
Well, considering all the great food and cooking posts I see on TDPRI.....many of our members would qualify.
Surely you've seen the recent headlines like all of us: "Millions Of Jobs, No Applicants". So Ledo's is taking a chance in offering you a great opportunity, whether you know how to wash dishes or not. They may even offer on-the-job training!
Hey, they valued you. That's a compliment.
Of course they didn't understand what they had come into contact with. But at least they tried--poorly.
Q: How do you get a guitar player off your porch?
A: Pay for the pizza.
And of course there's the old saying about what's the most important thing to learn for a new graduate with a sociology degree, (or English lit, or anthropology degree, etc) ?
The phrase, ".....and would you like fries with that?"
This is humorous, but there really is a shortage of workers who will actually work. My brother in law who lives in Arkansas was contacted by a large rental trucking company to come to work for them for the sole purpose of shuttling empty rental trucks around up to and including class A diesel trucks. HE IS 72 YEARS OLD! He's retired but ended up working for another company doing the same job shuttling trucks. He got tired of it, and quit doing it. Somehow the new company got his name, and now he's working again. Probably just buy a new pickup truck with the money.
They pay him very well for driving empty trucks! He's retired and doesn't need the money, but says he just can't turn it down. Recently, he had to work a really long day because two of the younger drivers couldn't make it in. One had a doctor's appointment, the other had an appointment to get his HAIR CUT!
Every restaurant I ever worked in (McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Pizza Inn) let you have a free meal (if you worked a full shift). When I worked at a Pizza Hut and Wednesday night was Smorgasbord, we got to divide up the remains of the buffet goodies. I was in college at the time and took home all I could. ;o)
Those really were the "good old days"! Pizza Inn especially had an incredible smorgasbord lunch buffet.
(my mouth just started watering at this thought)
Hey, leave the anthropology degree off that list! It's great to prepare for good paying careers in user research and design (for development of any new or improved product from web sites to hammers to cars etc.)
Well, we’re always going through the kitchen!
Yeah I have over 35 years experience driving boats, many qualifications including a 100 ton captains license and I get offers to work in the laundry.
