I know what you are saying, but depending on your life's experiences stuff can mean a lot. I'm at the age where I sometimes ponder who will be using my stuff and will they keep it, or perhaps peddle it on craigslist. My son has been gone five years, soon I'll be the only one left with anything of his. His truck and the trailer his wife traded his Harley for are now gone, the kids outgrew them. To someone sixteen years old, something twenty five years old is ancient. To someone my age, something twenty five years old is stuff sitting in your closet that you bought it seems like only last week. I remember when a thirty year old Martin was really something, now a thirty year old Martin might be on craigslist at a bargain price. It's all perspective man, it's all perspective.

Because it signifies people using welders and torches may be working there.

What a tragedy! I feel so fortunate that I got to visit it before it burned.

I was hugging my grand niece's little boy one day, and I said, I wish I had a million dollars I'd just buy you and take you home with me. I then added but your parents wouldn't take it of course. Quick as a wink he replied, "yes they would!"

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. A truly wonderful place. I’m devastated right now. And the jokes or belittling of this is a bit disconcerting.

Yeah, and people are only people and we know they’re temporary but it still stinks to lose one you like.

TD, most of our stuff is probably headed for the dumpster. Even the stuff that's the most special to us, because whoever inheirits it, they have their own stuff that they think is really cool, and, just because you thought your stuff was really cool doesn't mean they will.

and, that's as it should be

It is truly a sad thing.

We have no buildings in the US that could compare with the significance of Notre Dame to the people and the soul of the country.

But we do have plenty of a-holes saying 'get over it, ' which seems predictable.

A devastating cultural and historic loss for France and the world. Praying no one was hurt or killed.

    Where did anyone say that?
I saw people being thankful that lives weren't being lost (apparently)

    Totally agree.

Show a little respect. Or at least have a little class.

This church is four times older than the United States.

Tens of thousands of people have been married here, baptized here, worshiped here, and been given their final rites here.

The descendants of those people likely number in the hundreds of millions.

Prayers that no one has been hurt in the fire or in the battle against it.

Did the Cathedral have video surveillance cameras/security?

How true those words are! Not much demand for a fifty five year old tuning pitch pipe is there?

It is probably too early to know what is even possible with respect to restoration/rebuilding/complete re-creation of the cathedral but I hope that they can do something.

Hey kids, if you can’t say something nice, don’t say it.

You have been warned, and the hook is out.
