What I've noticed here in Northern Ohio is that it's past the middle of December, and we've had no significant snow, and the tempertature still goes up to almost 50 every day.

My sister and her family live in Yellowknife, North West Territories. The sun barely rises, and then it's gone around 3:30PM

I've heard that the sunset is later or the same but the sunrise is later. How the heck does that work?

As much as winter can be a challenge, it never seems like a wrong place for Homo sapiens to live and work like my experiences visiting and working in desert areas.

Definitely. I can walk anytime during the day here during the winter months, and it's just beautiful. I cannot do that in the summer months. You can only go out in the mornings and evenings during those months.

For the time of day in the winter, you get the relative cold (we are all lightweights after a few years in the warmth), but start to overheat after a few minutes of brisk exercise.

I thought that we had another five days before the days started to get longer. Are things different in the USofA?

The days’ lengthening isn’t linear. The sun may set two minutes later but it would have risen 2.01 minutes later too. The shortest day is December 21st.
