I have posted a few times on my favorite thread, what’s on your workbench and someone said ‘lots of cool projects going on, how about some build threads’ so here goes my first build thread (not first build)

    a year ago:
I acquired some old fir that was removed from a barn and had been in storage for more than 25 years so it must be close to 100 years old. Made a 3 piece body.

Next I made a router template for the chambering
    [IMG]
hogged a pile out with a forstner bit
    [IMG]
started smoothing with the router and template
    [IMG]
(i don’t have a pic of the smooth inside)

then i sanded the edges, mostly with a belts sander, i didn’t have my spindle sander yet. the inside curves near the neck pocket weren’t totally square, kinda rounded a little bit from hand sanding, which made cutting the binding channel interesting. next build i will use the spindle sander for sure!

routed the neck picket (after making a jig with the 3 boards clamped around the neck trick)
then placed the bridge and drilled the top part of the string threw holes

Very, very nice! Can't wait to see this all the way through. The ferrule holes look perfect.

then this thread was created
    https://www.tdpri.com/threads/stewmac-router-oops.951906/

after i did the ferrule holes i drilled the output jack hole... not a good idea because when i was routing the binding channel the guide fell into the output hole...

so i said it before and i’ll say is again, mostly so i remember, edge sand then binding then the rest!!

this is the setup i used
    [IMG]

then the idea was given to drill it out and plug it.
    thanks @guitarbuilder !!

got a 3/8 plug cutter at the local surplus store
    [IMG]

the scrap of cherry that i had to make a plug from was less then a 1/4 thick so i couldn’t get a clean cut so i clamped it between 2 pine 1x4’s and it worked
    [IMG]

    all plugged up ...

then it was binding time! binding adds a lot of work but it’s what makes a guitar awesome in my book. a sweet guitar without binding isn’t near as appealing.

and no that is not a spanking paddle, it’s my strop for my chisels n knives n such. has leather glued to the other side.
