Anyone else using a Dyno Brain preamp? I bought it years ago when I was into Gretsch guitars. I always thought it to be a subtle effect. I had not used it in years and dug it out of the parts bin the other day. Lately I’ve been really enjoying playing my Tele through a DRRI. Well I put the Dyno Brain in front of the DRRI and it did a couple of things-First off it provided a “sparkle” that really works well with a Tele. Second it drives the DRRI to a real subtle overdrive. I have always looked towards simple rigs and this one is looking good right now. The Nocturne stuff is really well made and Tavo is really great to deal with. Interested to hear from others using Nocturne stuff.

Yes I’ve got one and sometimes use it usually playing my Tennessee Rose prompts me to put it on the board for a while. It does work nicely with Tele.

I’m using a Unit 67 mostly now and That provides a similar sparkle and boost but with compressor too and I prefer it.

    hey Bob

I have the Pescadoro, which is tweakable octal preamp sound with tweakable and unique plate reverb

    AAC09C05-E3AC-4754-B621-71B8BEE36A56.jpeg

I've had it for a month or so and think it's fantastic

it plays best with a mid-scooped clean amp because what it adds is the fat mids, the grits and gravy

I tried it with an amp with flatter eq and found it was verging on too much

with a Fendery amp and moderate strength single coils, it's perfect and makes me want to try everything Tavo makes

his customer service was fast, responsive, and above and beyond

    really happy customer

PS it's also predictably great with my Gretsch HS Filtertrons

I had a Dyno Brain, and then I graduated to an Atomic Brain, and currently I'm running a Mystery Brain, that has that circuit in it

    just awesome

How does that Pescadoro differ from the JR Barnyard ?

it is the Jr Barnyard, but with Chess Records style reverb

it turns my little Quilter and cab into a pretty convincing EH-150

yes the Pescadoro combines the Jr Barnyard with those reverbs

I have an MXR Memory Toy Nano or TC Echobrain for analog delay, but it sure is tempting to sell them and go all in on the Mystery Brain

but the real reason is that Tavo is so knowledgeable about roots sounds and has such great ears. He tunes these pedals so well ...

Yeah I've gotta keep telling myself that i have enough tremolo pedals, and I so do not need his Nailhead

If he woulda included trem on the Mystery Brain, rather than that photocell modulation deal, I woulda been one happy camper let me tell you

I got the Nocturne stuff down. I had several Atomics, a Dyno, a Jr Barnyard, and a Mystery Brain. Sold them all except the MB, which is my for-life pedal. Great stuff.

I am much too smart to think that owning that pedal would make me sound like RJ Ronquillo. *repeats under breath 1,000 times while searching for pedal on Reverb*

    See above.

What can you tell me about the guy? I only know his Nocturne clips.
I mean, my google skills are fine, but I'd rather hear what a fellow coolguy has to say
    Thanks!

Here is a pic of jr. barnard's son and grandson playing like the jr. barnyard!

One of my friends is related to them, I sent him a link to the jr. barnyard and he sent this back...

Honestly, I first heard him doing demo clips for Eastwood guitars, and I was blown away. The fact that I said JJ when his name is RJ shows how little I know of him. Since then, I’ve watched a bunch of clips of him or RJ and the Del Guapos on the YouTubes, but that’s all I got.
