I've always been fortunate with sleep, even when things are on my mind I still can switch off. I don't usually wake at all from my head hits the pillow until 8 hours later.

Getting up to drink coffee would be unthinkable for me.

I was up in New York City attending the Audio Engineering Society and staying at a hotel just off Times Square. It had been a busy day and I hadn't had a cuppa since breakfast. I woke up at 2am with a splitting caffeine headache drilling absolute cavern in my head. Four Ibuprofen didn't touch it. It obviously wasn't going to go away without coffee. I got directions from the hotel clerk that took me back-country across a block through a loading dock and alley and deposited me at the Times Square Starbucks. "Veranda Blend Blonde venti, please." That was about the quickest fix for a caffeine headache I ever experienced. I actually felt the effect moving across my cranium. Less than an hour later I was able to get back to sleep.

I do a nocturnal coffee break most nights ... maybe more than once, but mine is "getting rid of the coffee" not putting more in.

No, I don't drink coffee after about 5pm. Usually just a couple of cups in the mornings.

I will often wake up around 7:30 or 8am, have a 12 oz cup of very strong french press, and start falling asleep while practicing scales while browsing the news or this forum. I'm not really sure how that happens, but I should probably go to sleep earlier (rarely before 1 am).
I never drink coffee after about 2 or 3 pm. Unless I'm gigging, going to a show, etc.

Hawaii tried caffeine to kill their Coqui frog infestation.

    I'm a low-level coffee/caffeine addict.

By this I mean I don't drink gallons of coffee daily, so much as I keep a 'low-dosage' in my system 24/7 it seems.

My daily routine is to sip 2 cups of Folgers from 7:30AM till NOON or so( will sip 2nd cup slowly, in my car while Uber driving). Then, in the afternoon, I drink 1 Diet Coke .
At around 5:30-6, I will then nuke 1 cup of coffee from the leftover morning pot, I know...sip slowly till 7:30
I can sleep whenever after coffee, but lightly, not real quality.

Heard on NPR special that you really should not have coffee after NOON, if you want to go to sleep well at night.

Also report stated that we coffee drinkers get hyper about having that first AM cup as withdrawal is kicking in ( no energy, headache etc.) just as we wake up, and we need the fix.
    I agree 100%

The medicos say not to drink coffee or tea after 9:00 p.m. I can't drink coffee, had some java in Java and it made my heart race. Teas- no later than 9:00 p.m. and that was in Hospital last year.

I prefer tea at night. Coffee is my daytime choice.

Not me. I’m a restless sleeper. Once I wake up, I’m up for the day. Sometimes that’s between 3-4 am. The first thing I do regardless of when I wake up is to head straight to the coffee pot. I couldn’t survive without coffee.
