Please post all your Nocaster pictures! I'm trying to decide between NOS, Closet Classic, and Relic. Are all of these options still offered?

NOS: Pro, new feel and I can relic it myself, so long as the "nitro" really is traditional nitro instead of the American Vintage series finish with a poly base. Con, the non-tinted neck looks weird to me after seeing so many amber ones, AND although I like the bigger neck, it might be absolutely unplayable if the new finish is tacky at all. Bad combination!

Relic: Pro, I loved the broken-in feel, especially on the neck. Con, I don't get to relic it myself, and I never get to enjoy its new stage.

Closet Classic: Maybe this is the best of both worlds for me. New(er) looking, feels a bit broken in, amber neck, and maybe less tacky neck.

    Any thoughts and pictures?

I think they did away with Closet Classic.

That's what I've been told too. Too bad.

    Here's a couple. A NOS from 2001 and a Relic from 1998.

Man, they didn't skimp on the curly maple neck wood on those things. Nice!

    I had the NOS (a '07).
A bit of "FingerEase" sprayed on the neck once in a while mitigates the sticky feel.

    Eventually it goes away.

My NOS was beautiful, though had less figure on the neck than the one pictured above with the relic'd version.

I let it go for financial reasons, and sometimes miss it. But there's more explaination in another Nocaster thread:

    Keep em' coming!

Anybody know whether the NOS nitro relics better than the AV?

Is the NOS neck sticky/tacky? I can deal with fat, I can deal with sticky, but I can't deal with both.

I played a Closet Classic 1960 and it was the BEST tele I've ever held. Sounded like angels wispering in my ears through an AC30. If I would have had $3500 to burn...

And I'm not one for 'relics' persay, but it was easy on the eyes. Just reliced enough to look not new, but far from used and beat up. Which I guess is the point.

I asked Mike Eldred of the Custom Shop on another post here what the difference was with the finishes between the NOS and the Relic. He said they're the same (100% Nitro, no poly base) but that the NOS was a little thicker than the Relic to avoid burn-thru when finishing.

I agree with other posters who have said that Fender no longer offer the Closet Classic as an option, which is a shame, as that's precisely the model I'd have forked out for!

    Thanks,

    I have a circa 2006 NOS No-Caster, maple plug.

It has a very pale hunk of wood for the neck. Striking.

I have other necks with a lot of birdseye and I have come to appreciate both looks, in nitro, if done right
