Once, down by the equator, I watched a snake try to cross a very hot tar road.
The snake got to the middle of the road and realized it was deadly hot.
I watched it look back where it came from, and that was too far. It looked where it was going, and that was too far, too.
That snake twisted and died right there in the middle of the road.

If you reach a certain age without concluding you're an idiot, you're an idiot.

I, of course, am not an idiot. I am wise, talented, and unfeasibly handsome.

    I am
I am wise enough to know guitars are two timing hussies. I'm kind of a cross between Timothy Olyphant and Brad Pitt in the looks department.

Which of course leaves me looking like.

Take it easy on yourself, Dan. We are all idiots in some aspect. For me it's dealing with women. I'm pretty good with guitars though. Got lots of guitars that I'm comfortable with, but two daughters that drive my crazy.

Well................................I have never thought of the two as anywhere remotely connected.

By any chance, do you give your guitars female names?

Got that right. I have more guitars than ex wives, but I had to get quite a few guitars to do so. But 22 years ago I finally found the right one (wife that is).

I tell young and new guitar players to KEEP the first one you get, and the first one you love. You'll never be able to replace them.

And then, its best to stay off the internet. Go play.

My wife snaps at me when I call myself an idiot so I pretty much don't do that anymore.

I have to say that I'm not worthy of my guitars. I appreciate them a lot, and they are made really well, and are functional pieces of art. My playing is what lacks.

I've had up to 80+ guitars/basses about 4 yrs. ago.

The majority of my collection was just good low-med quality used guitars I picked up for crazy low prices.

I finally realized I had quite a bit of money tied up in these guitars and sold them all for a decent profit.

I've been hovering around 50+/- or so since then.

I have bought and sold quite a few over the last 4 years, and I have a really good collection of quality used guitars .

I learned that each guitar offers it's own thing playing wise an tonally, and I work with what each guitar gives.

I'm hoping by the time I retire that I'll have whittled down the collection to about 30 guitars/basses.

These will be the instruments I'll leave to my guitar playing son.

I'll let him decide what guitars/ basses he want to hold on to.

It's funny, seems like on the net there's more discussion about guitars than amps, and guitars are constantly bought & flipped looking for something the shopper can't seem to find.

I find parts Fenders are super easy to get right, not that expensive, and really never need to be sold off whole just because one or two parts don't suit me.

Amps are harder and pedals similarly so, and those are where the voice comes from.
I don't really know how a guitar can be not good enough in any mysterious ways?

They are visible parts and you can easily identify which parts are wrong.
There's neck shape, neck stability, board radius, fret size, body shape, overall weight, bridge type, pickups, and wiring.

Virtually all those specs are parts you can change, all you have to do is figure out how you prefer the neck shape or fret size of electronics.

Or if a set neck, don't buy if the neck or body doesn't suit, then once you have the right bones, fix any other issues.

It's the tiny little guitar sound in your head, beckoning you to find it. But one thing the little stinker did not tell you ...... It's unobtainable

We are all idiots and want to believe that the great one is out there waiting to be found.

The positive is that all this guitar buying and selling is (hopefully) keeping some people in jobs.

In the meantime play the guitar you have - its probably just as good :)

Have you ever liked an acoustic guitar? They're quite likable!
