I bought a new American Standard Strat in Oct '16 from GC on an impulse, because I liked my Tele so much I thought I should have a Strat to compare. I had it set up, played it some for about an hour, but I just haven't found time to explore it, so I put it on CL for $895, about 20% off what I paid for it. It is almost new, never gigged, complete with all case candy and TSA approved hard case, beautiful sunburst finish.

But I can't hardly get any response! Only two enquiries in two months, one offer of $750 and one for $600! Ridiculous! "If I cain't sell it, I'm gonna sit down on it. I ain't gonna give it away." (Thank You, Ruth Brown).

Have the Strats just fallen out of favor? Is everybody just cheap, broke, or looking for a bargain?

I'll keep this till it becomes a collectible classic or my grandchildren want it, before I'll give it away. It is a thing of beauty, even if I never play it (which would be too bad, and is unlikely) and it simply hangs on my studio wall (more likely).

    End of rant.

    What brand is that?
If you paid a grand for that you probably felt something hit you on the back of the head as you were leaving. It was your change.

You can't decide what others will pay for things.

It's a used guitar, and used Strats are common. $750 is the high end of the range for used Strats around here, Portland might be a little different, but I doubt it.

30-35% off what you paid is a fair price. It isn’t new if it has been purchased and taken home.

I like to see 30-40% off store price when looking at a used item from an individual. The newer and nicer it is, the more likely I am to want to pay full price and get it from a store, if I'm in the market for something that new. Now if it was the exact version of the model I wanted, in the color I wanted, and I was about to buy one anyway, maybe it'd be worth saving 20% to make a special trip to play it and see if it's a good example. But what are the odds?
So I don't think it's because your guitar isn't nice enough, or not worth that much. I just think buying habits will have you wait a long time for the right buyer.

Has Fender changed the shape of their headstock?

In case some of you are missing it... that's not a Fender guitar in the picture. I can't tell what it is.

I assumed the pic was a mistake. Hope he didn't make that mistake on the CL posting.

CL buyers are trolls who want to get something for half of what it's worth. I can't tell you how many times I've listed something for a very fair and reasonable price and then get offered 1/2 of what I'm asking, even though all my CL ads say "No lower offers, please". It didn't used to be this way, but the human race is devolving at an alarming rate.
But, that definitely ain't an American standard unless someone's taken a hacksaw to the headstock.

Better the OP made a pic mistake posting the ad than bought it out of a cars trunk in the GC parking lot.

I hate to say this, but, if you paid a grand for that, you got ripped off.

I'll ignore the wierd picture and bite on the rant. Apart from maybe abit of fret wear, guitars don't get worse with age.

A used guitar is a used guitar. Doesn't matter if yours is a from last year or from 2013. They fetch the same. The 750$ offer was actually a very good offer!

I'll be honest... I only go on Craigslist looking for crazy cheap bargains. I don't low-ball people. I just look for things that are worth way more (to me) than what's being asked. I don't do it for re-sale... but I just get a kick out of getting cheap stuff, and I usually end up giving it away.

I'm a home stereo speaker hoarder... in a really bad way. I have about 20 pairs of home stereo speakers - most all of them are great -to- outstanding quality. My wife hates it. But I find them on Craigslist for dirt cheap... someone wanting to move, or clear out space... and snag them up.

When the heard of speakers gets too thick - I start giving things away to people who will appreciate them.

But yeah... I don't bother people with low-ball offers.
