OK, technically I got this a couple days ago and it’s really just a new-to–me, Jazzmaster.

I’ve been convinced for a long time that I just didn’t like offsets. I was never crazy about the shallow break angle over the bridges, the neck angles, the sometimes complicated switching and I was never really sure I cared for the sound of them, though I tended to like other people playing them… From Johnny Marr on a Jaguar to various jazz cats playing Jazzmasters.

Anyway, a local shop that frequently makes scandalously good deals had one… And made me a scandalously good deal. 2013 player Jazzmaster in mint condition.

I love it. I love the way the neck pickup sounds for jazz and I love that I can get hum canceling in the middle position. And the rhythm circuit is even better. It sits perfectly balanced on my lap if I rest it on my leg and it also balances perfectly on end if I play it in a more classical position over my chest.

Not a big fan of sunbursts typically… I would have preferred a Sherwood Green. But for the price

I got it, I won’t complain.

And I know… Pictures or it didn’t happen. So here you go:

That's a nice one. I think Tobacco Sunburst looks good on a JM.

Enjoy it!
Me too, rosewood and either red or brown tort guard seems as it should be to me.

My first offset traded for thread last week. JM AcoustaS US. I've wanted this shape for a git for a while now. But hardshell case is longer than a Strat Tele HS I learned. ;)

Enjoy!!

Happy new Jazzmaster day. :) Looks like a classic combination of colours and spec.

They are a little strange; I tried on and off for 5 years and while I loved the sound I'd hear on demos/comparison videos they didn't sound right when I played them. Something kept me going back to them though, so I'd try one whenever I got chance (even when on holiday :D ). I bought my Jaguar Player I before the JM quest started and that seemed much easier by comparison, albeit it's now much modified.

This year I tried a Player II JM (without the switching) and liked it; it felt nice and the sound was different enough to the Player II Strat I was playing side by side with it. I was all set to buy when an American Professional came up for sale for a bargain price near to me.

It was cheap enough to take a chance that I'd like the sound or sell it on if not...it's everything I wanted in a Jazzmaster, though completely different to most being a Maple fingerboard, no switching (more like a Tele) and V-mod pickups, plus a rather 'loud' Mystic Green metallic colour. It doesn't win favour with the hardcore JM fans, but no matter as I didn't buy it for them...might just be harder to sell if I ever need to, but no plans for that anytime soon.

They're so versatile! And I like their sometimes-maligned trem system just fine. Mine has become my go-to, for recording as well as general playing.

Plus, when you're playing one, it's easy to overlook how ugly they are--like Salvador Dali melted a Strat. No offense intended.... That handsome sunburst on the OP's JM indeed offsets his offset's ug's.

AW YEAH

Don’t fall into the “EVERYTHING HAS TO BE CHANGED/UPGRADED/MODDED” trap, but do give this a read for when your new friend needs a tweak:

Wow… This is a great article. Full of useful information. Thank you again.

Btw…it didn’t come with a vibrato bar. Anyone know where to get a good one that will fit?

Nice score ! this is a Classic Player Special , the higher tier of Mexican made fenders at the time , the Player series was the lowest tier one , with humbuckers ; satin neck not tinted , and no Rhythm circuit .

there was a lot of FSR limited editions with better pickups like pure vintage 65 , made for CME sweetwater and other big shops . Maybe you could look at the pickups , see what you got in there .
The fact that it's a 2 tone sunburst indicates it's a FSR , but I think it still has the same " hot special " pickups .

The Classic Player later became Classic 60's and Classic 60 's Lacquer with nitro finish . those have the classic bridge /trem spacing instead of the closer bridge trem spacing /T.O.M of the Player and Classic Player .

The only thing that could need upgrading is the Tune-O-matic bridge , you can put a roller bridge , or just graph-tec saddles to improve the trem 's return to pitch .

The Player series have the crappy T.O.M bridges with a retainer wire that keeps causing buzzes and rattling saddles , you really want to get rid of it if it's that kind of T.O.M But I think yours have the classic Korean made T.O.M
