Can I shoot clear nitro over duplicolor? I keep reading that duplicolor clear coat is horrible and I have clear nitro I can use.

I've done it with much better success than with the duplicolor clear. The key is to let the Duplicolor dry completely. I waited a month before I sprayed the lacquer. The first couple coats of lacquer should go on very, very light. After you have those down, you can put on heavier coats.

Not really necessary, I have cleared Duplicolor with nitro after just one hour of drying time without problems but yes, go light at first to avoid runs.

I'll be doing this shortly. Have some Duplicolor gray primer, a few cans of Metallic Charcoal frost, and regular ol' Minwax Nitro Clear spray cans.

It's an Epi Les Paul getting a complete repair and upgrade. New headstock, new frets, tuners, hardware, etc.

I expect to start in a couple of weeks. I have a little more prep to do plus I want to test out the primer and paint on some junk wood, try a couple practice runs for binding scraping and so on. But in my limited research before buying all the stuff it seems to work fine.

Short answer - YES. I have a sample size of one that says it works fine.
Got a couple more planned. I waited a while before clear coating but can't argue with the previous poster that followed up right away. If you're in no hurry, no harm in waiting. If you are, go for it, and let us know what you learn.

Best of luck,
Rex
