A group of my students once took to calling me D.S. off-hours.

Along with the well-worn mantra 'D.S. does everything better.'

Back in college, we all sat around listing our favorite guitar players. My friend Paul noted a common thread in all my picks. They were all heroin addicts. From that moment on, I was known as TommySmack .

Danjabellza is actually a nickname given me by my best friend in high school. In one of my duty stations in the army I was Danger Dan.

My military buddies have called me C.H.U.D. since the war. We did a lot of trench line and bunker operations.

Other nicknames over the years have been Chadder, Chadderbox, Chadley, and Flash. Not sure about where Flash came from. Lol

I had the same nickname, which was the obvious and predictable shorthand for my last name, all growing up. Even adults (teachers and my friends' parents) used it when talking to me or about me.

So I found it oddly refreshing in college when people called me only by my given first name. Now decades later, I smile when my high school buddies and their wives still refer to me only by my nickname. It takes me back to a less complicated era.

    Wow!

I sure learned something today! Thanks!

My paternal grandfather, called whichever grandchild he was playing with "Skeezix" and I never thought to try to figure out where that came from.

And in the decades since, we would call whichever new nephew or puppy by that name, also. It was sometimes a place holder until we could decide what proper name to assign to a pet.

    +

And so, this leads to the next question, which is, who was "McTavish"? Because that was the other thing he would call us.

When I was at school the teacher read us a story based on Noah's ark. The gist was how all the animals pre flood lived together happily, but an evil creature call the Skub only took 40 days and nights to convince them to kill each other.

I was considered a schitt stirring little so and so,therefore the name stuck.

I had bad press right from the off. :(

We had a guy we used to call Speedy Pete, and then just Speed because he was so slow, kind of a loudmouth, and a world-class sore loser. When he went away to college, he told all his new buddies to call him "Speed." They did but, I suspect, never appreciated the irony.

Years and years ago (december) when we last had a sit down dinner, out, the hostess would sometimes ask for a name, so she could summon customers by name, as tables opened up.

And my girlfriend would tell the hostess "Boris" and the hostess would look at me funny. Like I was some foreign troublemaker or something.

I think my late ferret, by this same name, lived up to it better than I have. He will always be, the Real Bubba.

When I was building/riding Harleys back in late 60s I got into painting with lace stencils. I did a beautiful butterfly on a tank and got nicknamed Bug

My current business is SewerSnake. I’m known as SewerSnake Steve or many times just Snake

    Arthur, my middle name.
In my group of friends there were quite a few with the same first name as me, Peter, so we all got nicknames.

Also Eugene. :) A friend we lost some time ago came up with it, a play on my surname.
Some close friends still call me that, it's a way to remember him and always makes me smile.

In work, I'm Grandad, because I'm a student at 50, a lot older than many others doing the same job.
    I love it!

    Deppends on the place...

My old Neighbourhood call me "Loco" witch stands for Crazy
Bikermates call me "XX" because the licence plate of my first Harley had that
In the Job I am usually "Sideburns" or "Elvis"
In music I am usually "Rafa Chocolate"... Chocolate is a slang word for Hashis in Spain... But it is for my band name

We had a co-worker who was rather rotund; they nicknamed him "Weebil." (Weebils wobble but they don't fall down.)

My first name is Owen, and many people call me Mr O, which came from my friend Kellye and her family, because their surname is Owen.

    My partner calls me bummer.
