I’ve been playing with some open tunings lately, and was frustrated with constantly retuning - so my thought was to find a midline something-or-other to leave in the tuning du jour Spotted a G&L ASAT Classic at a nearby store and the price was right! Neck feels great - bridge is nice, and it was set up really well - so I had to take it home. There is a nice amber tint to the neck, and the body is an amber blonde - it really looks nice set against the black pickguard. Looks pretty, feels really good - it’s an excellent place to start! I cannot say that I love the stock pups. They sound a bit “wooly” IMHO, lacking some clarity and definition. They have adjustable pole pieces, and I haven’t changed the stock height of the pups or the poles - my impression is based on the factory set up. I’ll spend some time getting to know the guitar a bit better, and will tweak the pups a bit - but my bottom line? The guitar looks 7/10 The guitar plays 8/10 The guitar sounds 5/10 Right out of the box, I’d certainly take it to a gig - and it was priced cheaper than I would have ever imagined for a guitar this solid.
