Well since Strat Talk was all the rage around here for a day or two, I just happened to stumble on this and had to grab it.
There is something about those sunburst finishes that just gets me and add in the large head stock...

I can't wait to open her up and see the guts, if you look closely the middle pup has a little different look than the other two... hmmmmmm... I wonder why that is?

2004 Affinity Stratocaster for less than a dinner with the family at KFC...

I found $10 in the pocket of a thrift store jacket once. Don’t act like you’re not impressed ;)

Whoa! I just scored a 2016 Affinity burst - one of the best players I have ever come across in a pawn shop - $119 cdn. I traded in some junk and ended up with the guitar and $45 in my pocket! I literally ordered aged white knobs and covers and a brown tortoise guard two days ago!

Sweet guitar and looks awesome! Congrats!

PS: does that have the vintage stamped bent steel saddles? It looks like it but I can’t quite tell from the pics. Mine did not, but I installed a MIM Standard trem in it today with the bent steel saddles.

It does not have the bent steel saddles, it has the block saddles, but I would love to hear your thoughts on the tone difference between the bent saddles and the block saddles as I have a set sitting in my parts drawer.

I don’t know that there is any tone difference with the standard saddles - if there is, it would be very slight. I just bought this Affinity as a mod platform and dropped MIM Standard trem in it for the look of of saddles and the larger, higher mass trem block. I think that the larger block does contribute to sustain, but it could be snake oil - who knows.

It is not exactly a drop in replacement, but the MIM trem does use the same string spacing so it wasn’t too hard to put in. I had to cut 5mm off of the block and redrill the holes for the trem springs because the body on the Affinity is thinner and the block stuck out the back. It also won’t bend down as far with the larger block, but that could be fixed by removing a bit of wood from the back cavity. But I’m not planning on dive bombing on this thing, so it works for me.

So did you check out the pickups and wiring yet? Mine had a ball of solder in it loose with a couple of ground wires connected to it - cold solder joint pulled right off the back of a tone pot. It’s getting completely rewired tomorrow.

    Looks nice.
I had a highway 1 strat with the big headstock.
It was the only guitar I ever had with the bent steel saddles and I didn't didn't care for them.

Alas, no money was found in the smugglers hole. :(

I did find a couple of things. Staggered pole pieces with bars on the bottom. Backwards wired pots, rear tone pot has the cap. It was almost touching the first tone pot, which I wonder might have been an oversight that it was not soldered in.

And no maple cap on the fret board, it is solid with the skunk stripe.

It does have 500K pots which I guess were matched to the pups.

I was happy to report the solder job looks adequate and nothing was rolling around loose under the pick guard.

I just got to finally plug it into my 5E3 and it quacks like a strat!

Took an hour or so to set up as the action was so high. Debated about putting the stamped saddles on and decided to keep it as is for now.
