Got this one last week. Had just bought a Backlund last Fall and also traded my PRS 30th anniversary SE for a lovely 20th anniversary Custom 22. Didn't have any plans nor extra money to buy another anytime soon.

But I couldn't pass it up at the price; the seller had misidentified it as something else and listed it rather cheap, with fitted case.

Been awhile since I bought a shredder - it's obviously pretty metal-oriented and I might swap out the quad rails eventually (I have a set of customshop Fuglybuckers waiting for a good home). Will give the stock pickups a chance though. They're hotter than my other pickups, even so they might grow on me. Push-pull pots split them, and one good feature is they're fully humbucking even when split.

I haven't had the free time on a sunny day to shoot pics of my own; these are from the builder's website.

Zerberus Chimaira. Korina body, thick maple top, 25½" scale, set neck with ebony fretboard and long tenon neck joint. Unusual back carve for easy upper-fret access.

Looks sweet but I'm not at all sure about that upper strap lock location.

Extremely disappointed. With a name like that it should have been a triple-neck.

Actually, it's kind of cool but not what I would expect.

Is it the Korean model? There’s a black one on Reverb that’s Korean that seems like a fair price. That’s a beauty.

Yep, all the Chimairas are MIK except for the prototype, which was sold to an American collector at NAMM 2012. Aside from the proto, only 40 were made, all in 2012. They don't come up for sale too often.

I found the other one on Reverb; it didn't show up in my first search because the seller has misspelled the name. Very nice color, that one.

I found a couple pics of the Chimaira prototype on the Zerberus website. It's a bit fancier - I dig the inlays.

Frank's other models are pretty amazing too. Here's a link to a gallery with pics of some guitars he's sold:

His newer designs are not quite as exotic, but no less cool. He's made some with stone tops that have LED lighting underneath, and an eco-friendly line made sustainably from pressure-treated bamboo. Unfortunately all those guitars are rather heavy and I lean toward lighter ones. My Chimaira is 7.2 lbs, that's a comfortable weight for me.
