Just as good or better build quality then Taylor, Martin or, Gibson (I have the FS5). Has it's own voice, brighter than a Martin but, warmer then a Taylor.

    My LL16D:

Bought from some 19 year old kid on CL for $500 including chipboard case...he bought this to learn guitar and did not stick with it.

I won't knock Martin, Gibson, or others, but I'm willing to bet there would be plenty of brand snobs that would be shocked if they took a blindfolded playing challenge on any of the Yamaha LL series.

And here I am thinking maybe I should get the 000-15M instead.

do you think its because of the scale length?

Apples to oranges, scale length has a lot less of an impact to tone than top wood type...

I think for acoustic guitars, "torrefication" processes (Yamaha calls theirs "A.R.E") have been one of the biggest advancements in terms of tone quality when done right. I absolutely agree on wood type, but not all spruce tops are created equal.

There are a LOT of variables, though, including build quality, design detail, etc.,.

Hey skerwo, how would you say the tone of the Yamaha differs from a Martin?

Hi, I would the LL16M compare to a Gibson J45. So I think it should be a little bit warmer than a Martin dreadnought.
