Mine was very, very good straight out of the box. The nut slots were a little high, but that is normal. Better too high than too low. However, I think our expectations have changed in the big-box/online world. That said, Ensenada has definitely stepped up their game.
The Isbell neck is shaped the same (‘60s C) with less shoulder, leading to a slightly less chunky feeling. Could partially be the finish difference. I love them both- far more than the MIM Modern C. I am not a relic guy, but the aging they did to the neck is pretty minimal.
I have four bound ‘60s reissue Telecasters (all MIJ) and four unbound ‘60s-style Telecasters (MIA/MIM). After a lot of buying and selling, that’s where my happy place is.
