I always look for an excuse to justify buying a new guitar and I have a birthday coming up this week so I bought a new fender electric 12

I wanted one of these since they were announced and I finally got one
My first foray into 12 strings
I feel in love with this instrument when I saw Johnny Winter play one in the Woodstock film

Lake Placid blue wouldn’t have been my first choice but something about this particular one spoke to me
And it almost matches my marrguar

Actually plays pretty easily and has a satin finish on the back of the neck
Now I just have to figure out how to tune it without going crazy

For color comparison against a Johnny marr jaguar in lpb

Gorgeous! I’m hoping to try one out soon... and will be mighty tempted to trade in a less-used 6-string against it. Like you I’ve been dreaming of one of these since they were announced: unlike you LPB would be my first choice finish!

Damn... I saw a vintage sunburst one last week when I was in Austin (Austin Vintage Guitars), and fell out of love quickly when I saw the price tag.

Love the Marr... I just saw that they released the Sustainer version in LPB. I'm holding out for the silver sparkle, if they ever release one.

Congrats again, she's a beauty. Headstock tuners are your friend... I keep one on my Ric 12 and one on my Martin 12 at all times.

Saw one on the replay of Concert for George Harrison the other night. Reminded me of mine I had in about 1966 ish. Mine was Olympic White. Odd looking things for sure!

Please tell us more as you get to know it. I'm seriously tempted by these.

Very nice. Since you already had an LPB 6 string, I don’t know how you could even hesitate to get a matching 12.

That goes surprisingly well with your sig line.

I'm 0 for 2 on twelve strings, but really pretty pair.

I think Johnny Winter only had 6 strings on his. Pye Hastings from Caravan used one and I saw Cream/Clapton video where he played one. Saw a video Gene Clark also playing one with the Byrds.

Yeah Johnny only played with 6 , I was thinking if I didn’t want to use it as a 12 all the time I’d string it up that way but I think the string spacing would be too odd for me

For the time being I’m enjoying it as a 12

Except the pesky g strings I don’t know if it’s intonation or just the octave string but it just sounds kind of funny

If you look around I think you'll find there are lots of "tricks" for tuning a 12-string. My only 12 is an acoustic, but I find that, especially on the plain strings, I prefer for the strings in each pair to be a little "off" from each other.
