IMG_20200228_123628313.jpg Back in October I talked myself into selling my prized, one and only Tele to fund a PRS Special Semi-Hollow. While the PRS was an amazing guitar, every time I played it I just thought about how much I missed the Tele. It got to a point where I was even having dreams about my old guitar. I had it longer than any guitar, 8 years. Selling her was a mistake. Live and learn.

Last week I was able to find a buyer for my PRS. I called the person I sold my Tele and unsurprisingly he was not interested in selling her back. Can't blame him, it's a great guitar. After researching and obsessing over what guitar i should get I decided on a Thin Skin 64 from Wildwood. I really loved the looks, reminiscent of Mike Bloomfield's 63. Bloomers is the reason I picked up the guitar in the first place. The demos sounded awesome. So Wednesday I pulled the trigger.

It got here today and I could not be happier. Beautiful guitar. Light and resonant. The feel is definitely different than my old 52 RI, this one has a 9.5 radius and 6105 frets, but I have to say it is very comfortable to play, bends are a breeze. Plugged in, wow. The CS Twisted Tele pickups are sweet and articulate. Less twangy than the 52's but more refined in the mid range and the neck pickup is incredibly sweet sounding. Im so glad to be back in the Tele fold. Feels like home.

Sweet! I got a thin-skin '69 Thinline RI from Wildwood on Monday. Aren't the 6105's a nice touch? Congrats on your new guitar! I hope you enjoy it as much as I plan to enjoy mine. Plus...they'll age nicely!

p.s. The one in my avatar is my old MIM, not the the new thin-skin. It's black with tortoise pg.

Congrats on yours too! They are exceptional guitars! I do like the 6105s, I thought I would prefer the vintage ones but I really appreciate the easier bends and vibrato. Mine came with modern wiring aka bridge, bridge + neck, neck with the master volume and tone. The finish on these seems thinner but somehow more resilient than the AV's so I'm looking forward to seeing how it ages.

Congrats! A beautiful guitar from an incredible dealer. I've dealt with them many times, always a good experience.

In regards to your finish comment, I've spoken to WW about the comparisons between their Thin Skin and Fenders 2012-2017 AV's Flash Coat, and they said it's the same process and materials and everything, but they said the Thin Skins were very slightly thicker. I'm also guessing from personal experience that the latter AV years (maybe 2015-2017) were also slightly thicker as the earlier one's would chip easily. My 2013 58 was fragile as hell, but my 2016 52 never chipped- so I appreciate that WW uses the slightly more durable coating method.

    Enjoy!

Ah that makes sense. Yeah my 2012 52 would chip if I sneezed in the other room. This Thin skin looks to be a little more "sunken in" where as the finish on my 52 felt like it was just sitting on top of the wood up until about a year ago.

That's exactly how it was with the 58 vs 52, 52 was more sunken in, I loved it
