So I've been itching for a Sire Larry Carlton H7 for quite a while and have been watching as the used prices climb. I've tried a couple out at stores and really liked them, but for one reason or another, never pulled the trigger. I saw one on Guitar Center site for $429 and I had a $100 gift certificate that my band leader had given me so for $329 I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger. It was a store in California and I called and asked if it came with a gig bag or case. The salesman was borderline rude about it and said no, not at that price, but I let it go and bought it. Well, it showed up in my local Guitar Center and I went down to pick it up and the salesman came out with it and asked if it has a case so I told him that I was told there was no case or gig bag. He asked if it was a Les Paul and I told him it was a Sire H7 and he said, boy this thing is HEAVY, that's why I thought it was a Les Paul. I picked up the box and it was very heavy. I can't play heavy guitars anymore so I'm thinking, this bad boy will have to go back. We opened the box, and there it is in its BRAND NEW Gator hard shell case with the tag still on it. It looks brand new, not a scratch on it, plastic still on the pick guard.

For once corporate America screws up in my favor. $429 for a pristine Sire Larry Carlton H7 in a brand new Gator hard shell case. Woo Hoo!

Score! Congratulations.

I, too, was sorely tempted by one of these at my local GC. In the end, I had to walk away because the nut was too narrow for my comfort. Everything else about the guitar is stellar. I'd have it now if not for my stupid hands.

They make an H7V with a wider nut and P90s now.

Nice. How is it?
Still getting used to it, but the string height is very low with no buzz, the pickups sound good as-is, the neck is very comfortable, the finish is first rate. It looks, plays and sounds like a much more expensive guitar.

I don’t know if I’d say it’s as nice as an ES-335, but I will say that if I was blindfolded and someone handed me this guitar and said it was a Gibson ES-335, I’d believe them. I’ve tried a lot of the ES-335 wannabes and this is by far the best.

I do enjoy the error in my favor.

My most local GC actually sold me a brand new amp at the price of a used one when another store shipped me the wrong amp. I was a very happy customer that day. It's probably because like most compassionate and kind people, the manager was named Ben. They had to have taken a loss on it, and I hope they have a mechanism for passing that along to the idiot who couldn't tell the amps apart due to what I assume was chronic substance use.

Of course I was at a different GC the other day, and they kept trying to convince me that it was totally cool that they'd taken in a used pedal/amp without it's proprietary power supply because "maybe it's one of those things where someone had the higher voltage output on their pedalboard or something." No dude, it's a 24 volt, 3 amp power supply and you screwed up and I came all the way to your store to buy this useless thing and now you're insulting my intelligence. Cool.

I do NOT expect assistance or competence of any kind from GC, though there are absolutely employees who are exceptions.

Guitar Center doesn't seem to price in cases on their used guitars. My PRS 245 SE came with a PRS hardshell case (a $280 accessory!) , and was priced the same as those with the normal gig bag.
Used cases at GC are a non-thing. Got a guitar that’s worth $300 trade in? It’s worth $300 trade in. Tell them you’ve got a $200 brand new case for it, it’s still worth $300 trade in. Used cases have zero value to them. The upshot is, they don’t charge anything for them either. If a used guitar is worth $500, that’s what they sell it for. Even if it has a $200 case with it.

I do the same thing when I’m buying used. I pay whatever the guitar is worth. I don’t care what comes with it. If a seller wants extra money for extra stuff, they can keep it. I’ll take it if it’s part of the price, but I really only want the guitar. Im not paying extra for yet another case I’ll never use and have to store. They have no value to me at all.
