I received this Esquire a few weeks ago from S.W.

It plays well, action is a little wierd, I think due to the narrow tall frets. I can't get the action as low as I like. But it's not a deal breaker by any means.

    Fit and finish are excellent.

Tone is Esquire all day long. Very chimmey and open. Harmonics anywhere you want them. It growls with overdrive and cleans up crystal clear without.

I already changed out the resistor/capacitor pack in favor of a single capacitor ala Eldred mod. Also some Pure Vintage dome knobs I had laying around. Otherwise this is how she'll stay. No need for anything else yet.

Although having a CS Nocaster pup just sitting here is awfully tempting Lol.

Is it routed for a neck pickup in case you ever change your mind? If so, what size?

Sweet guitar. I bought mine 2019 from Andertons. I was tempted for months, to swap the pickup, with a don mare 0038 @11.5
I can't do it. This guitar is perfect the way it is. The only change I'll make if the electronic's fail. I'm hoping for a different color
in the future, for the mare pickup  Also, this guitar isn't routed for a neck pickup. Congrats..enjoy your new guitar.

I just can't anything wrong enough to swap the pup out either. Looking at the electronics, I'm impressed by the quality...albeit cheaper imitations of the originals, still impressed.

I'm still not quite happy with my dark circuit...so I still have something to fiddle with.

    Glad your enjoying it!!
So, no neck route?? That could be a deal breaker for me. I like options-

If I go for an Esquire, I’ll start with a Tele, and “backfill” the neck pickup with an Esquire pickguard, and add the circuit to a three way switch. Options...

I was very close to clicking buy on the Sweetwater site for one of these. Haven't yet, but still tempted.

I wonder how the pickup compares to the CV 50's Tele bridge pickups. Similarly, I've never really found the need to swap those pickups out, they always sound great that I don't want to muck anything up by changing a good thing (even though I love to tinker with pickups typically).

Question.. have you tried juicing that dark circuit in the clean channel, with your amp. It's a lot of fun.
I'm on the fence about changing the pickup from a A5 to a A3 like the nocaster or my 0038. Also, the saddles are chrome plated brass. Plus, did you notice you can use your bridge plate, as a top loader. Cheers..
