An original '74 Deluxe. More text & pics to follow.

One pot dated week 2/74, one '73, the others unreadable but seem all original. No major repairs or modifications. The frets are pretty worn and the neck has a slight ski jump at the heel, but I got her set up and adjusted properly regardless so that's not something I'm going to worry about yet. The heel end may need a relevelling and she'll absolutely need new frets later, but that's something for the future because she still plays good and sounds awesome. Those original WRHBs are just bitchin'!

That "mocha brown" color is prolly my favorite on those and perfect amount of patina! Original case?

Unfortunately no, but I got her pretty reasonably so I'm fine with that. Might want to buy some old Fender cases in the future however, but the money's all spent now so that's for later

Just where do the nut cuttings pivot points determine the length of the string between the nut & the bridge?

The nut cuttings here appear to have a tapered profile ?, however outby of the nut

Well the neck and the pots on mine are from '73, so it makes it a 73/74...
I knew you were getting a new guitar, probably a Deluxe, so I was waiting for your post
Yours looks exactly the same as mine, includings the pots etc. Only mine has a bit more of relicking on the back which never bothered me.
Congrats, it is a really lovely guitar and those WRHB are trully unique in terms of sound characteristics.

Great find! Looks complete original and really well cared for. Mine was originally mocha/walnut. When I got the old amateur refin sorted I went black but still like the look of these,

Yes, noticed this as well. Haven't measured, does intonate properly however. EDIT: went and rechecked, something very funny going on with the 1st pic, see below

Very possibly yes. The wood seems darker and the finish more opaque, so that could indeed be.

In both cases, I think that's the way a "relic" finish should look. The arm wear on both are similar and looks great.

@derekwarner: someone has indeed handled the nut pretty roughly, but as this pic may show, the nut/string pivot points are still where they ought to be - or at least close enough for adequate intonation. Needs a new nut later though, that's true...

I wish I had bought one of these (and kept it, unlike my '73 Strat) back in the 80's when these "terrible" CBS Fenders could be purchased for $250 or so.

That is funny. The previous owner really messed up nut on my guitar too. The lines for the strings were cut very low and were quite wide. My luthier made a new nut and now things are as they should be.
