Traded some gear and this one caught my eye. It’s got some finish cracks and dimpling on the front. Tone pot didn’t work. Everything crusted and rusty, but it had potential. Got it real cheap, changed out the pot, lubed the nut, put in a Wilkinson P90 I had lying around, new input jack, new pick guard screws, and off we go. Plays real nice, stays in tune like a champ and really screams. Just too much fun. I think it was built in 1997 if I’m deciphering the serial number correctly.

I've got a 1998 LP Jr. If it was like mine, the stock P90 should be great, provided it wasn't abused and broken.

The pickup worked but it was all nasty and corroded. I may clean it up and throw it back in there. We’ll see.

That's unfortunate. I've bought several projects where the stock pickups have been ruined by damage, a use or negligence. I've also replaced them in those situations.

I’m guessing this one was stored in a damp basement. Everything except the tuners and bridge was rusted and/or corroded.

I had one of those. Mine was from MARS music-remember them? I got it really cheap when they were closing, and because the body was super mismatched, on an angle. It played just fine, though! Let’s see if I can find a pic of it...
