When I posted about my first Rickenbacker (660 Fireglo) I mentioned that I never lived near a shop that had Ricks in stock. Well, just about a week ago I found that my local shop had a few just come in: 620s in various colors, a Liverpool model and some 4003 basses.

I wanted to try the high gain single coils to see if I liked them as much as the Toasters, and found that I actually liked them more. Obviously the neck was slimmer, but really very comfortable; nowhere near the toothpick-like thinness I had read about. A very good neck, actually. I really, REALLY liked it, and it had that crystal-clear clean sound that I love so much.

It was different enough from the 660 to justify getting it, but I have enough guitars already. "I'll check the price, it's probably too expensive," I thought to myself, "so that's why I won't get it." The sales guy said he couldn't go too low since they are hard to get in stock... How about $1200? Sigh... ...Sold! :D

Awesome! On my short list. That, a Duo Jet, and an SG, and I'm all done.

That’s beautiful. With the distance between those minipickups it must sound huge when you play through both pickups.....like a Firebird but even better.

    Congrats. Wow!

Awesome man. I've always loved the 620's, but I haven't owned one. Yet.. I play them whenever I see them in a shop, but the timing is never right. Sounds like you got a great deal. Plus it's blue which seems a lot less common than the black or fireglo finishes you see all the time.

Beautiful guitar! Had one in Mapleglo 30 years ago, didn't work in the trio I had back then, but still cool.

Yes, new. That's why I couldn't pass it up. I've bought a few guitars from that sales guy before, he always gives me a good deal.

I'm jealous, any chance you want to reveal your source?

    PM inbound.

BTW I've discovered that the 660 is not just a tarted-up 620. The 660 will not fit in a 620 case; they're close, but different guitars.

What a score! Amazing price and beautiful guitar.

I'm coming up on 10 years with my mapleglo 620 and it's my only 6-string these days. Just don't have any desire to play anything else. Over the years, I've made some changes to get it just how I want it.

    Mastery bridge:
No more rattle from the set screws on the stock bridge and a bigger tone with more sustain.
6105 stainless frets: Did this about two years ago when I'd worn the originals pretty hard in spots. Love the bigger frets and feel and didn't notice any difference in sound. Plus, not a hint of wear after two years.
'63 firebird pickups: Had a winder I know get some knockoff toasters and build some vintage, alnico Firebird pickups in the covers and love 'em - like a bright, clear, big single-coil with no hum.
5th knob: After years of not using this, I swapped it for a 1M pot and 2n2 cap as a 'bass contour' control for the neck pickup. Very useful to dial out some woofiness

You scored a winner there Torz.

One of my big regrets was trading a '620' a couple of years back, along with a Rick bass for a guitar that is actually a great guitar but rarely sees action. No regrets in some ways, but I do miss the 620 more than I thought I would.
Wish I had traded something else instead.

Look after the 620, you have a beauty there

Very nice! I had my RIC 360-12 string out last night and got lost in 12 string songs. I'm glad to see that they've started putting the inlays all the way across the fingerboard again. Mine are short on either side. That's my only complaint, though and it's minor.

    Happy NGD!
