I decided I needed a better guitar for playing with my jazz friends, next step up. Looked at various traditional hollowbody jazzers, nothing too high end, initially 2nd hand, then new, but didn’t see anything that spoke to me. Then I spotted Anderton’s deal on the SE Hollowbodies, £400 off, and decided that would suit me and our band just nice. Sell a few bits and bobs and it’s funded.

Plays nice, has a clear modern jazz tone even with the factory roundwound 10-46 strings. Setup and finish out of the box is pretty good but some of the nut slots need work as notes around the 3rd fret are out of tune. Looking forward to the next rehearsal with this one.

Just checked and the Anderton’s deal is still on today, 12 Dec, and I see other UK dealers’ prices on this guitar are starting to creep down too.

Nice! I got the same guitar a few months back. Setup out of the box was unplayable, but after a bit of work it plays fantastic and is my go-to jazz guitar now (even though I am an objectively horrible jazz player). Enjoy!

Lions & Tigers oh Mi !
.

I have .... more than one PRS. You will find you have a keeper.

Lately I rotate the bridge pickup 180deg, lower it, and raise the screw poles. Gives a great P90 bridge pickup tone. Regular P90 screw poles line up with the north side humbucker bobbin.

Neck pickup I lower and raise the screw poles for balance with the bridge, and more clarity.

If you get to a point you want to swap pickups, just work on pickup heights, pickup bass treble tip, and swapping pots and caps. I used to swap pickups until I realized these other options.

Nice! I’ve been seriously fighting the urge to buy a core model. More money than I need to spend and a much better guitar than I am a player. Yours seems like the best of both worlds.

@thatkeithmorris That is a sweetie of a guitar. Happy NGD!

I have a Hollowbody Piezo SE. It has curly maple binding on the body front and back, sides of the fingerboard, around the headstock, and in the F holes. This is a feature that no US standard production core models have. It also has a bone nut and the large headstock, which is a feature available only on the Robben Ford signature model. The inlays are abalone. The piezo system is made by Fishman, and it sounds really good. The humbuckers are very good as well. If you're looking for an affordable guitar with premium bling features like this, check out the HB II Piezo SE. Huge bang for the buck.

I'm a Gibson fan, and I have a Custom Shop ES-3399 (339 with a '59 neck). It is a truly fine guitar, and it was more than twice the cost of the PRS. Does it play and sound twice as good? No it does not.

I've been wanting to buy one of these PRS hollowbodies too!

I just wish PRS offers this model in more colors other than burst!

I assume that all the Hollowbody SEs have burst finishes to hide the edges of the laminated top (although maybe the binding does that… in which case I don’t know why😀). But yeah I think that’s the worst thing about them — I don’t like burst finishes. If they had one in a plain colour (I don’t need to see woodgrain) I’d probably have one by now…😀

As per @Peegoo’s post — the spec on those guitars is incredible.

I agree. i think the only burst I like are old Gibson archtop sunbursts. Aint nothing like those. Or lemon bursts, etc.

Im also okay with solid, but man, if they do a Santana blonde/yellow on these with natural back? I’ll be a few hundred dollars poorer right now.

The thing is, I can overlook aesthetics if the guitar plays and built right, but man, at least fix the colors on these models! Hahahaha
