Great score! Those early Predators are seriously well made guitars.

Thanks! The body and neck are definitely nice. The tuners are only OK, though. I don't know about the stock pups since this one came with EMG's but I'm excited about putting the GFS hotwound Texas pups in there. All in all, I'm going to have just over $200 and it should rock like any Strat out there!

Congratulations! You have found the most under priced USA made guitar out there. Great neck on the Predators. The pickups usually sound like crap but that's an easy upgrade. Mine had 22 frets so make sure you get the right pickguard.

I sure hope the one I ordered fits! I ordered one of GFS's "Superstrat" pickguards. I had read in some review of a USA Predator that the owner put a MIA Fender strat pickguard on his Predator and it fit no problem, so I hope this pickguard works. GFS makes all of their regular pickguards to fit MIA Fender guitars.

Edit: I just reread some posts in a Strat forum where someone said that a Fender standard strat pickguard fit just fine on his early 90's Predator, he just had to drill a few new holes. My Predator is a '93, so the pickguard I ordered should fit fine. Whew!

For a lot less money......just return the guitar back to all original. The Predator is a SERIOUS guitar right out of the box. To add anything to it that was not there to begin with is REALLY not needed. So, you could honestly buy the pickups etc. on Ebay for half the price that you just sold the EMG's for and be in pure tonal heaven with the original guts back in it.

I guess I could but I already sold and shipped the pickguards assembly. I could track down some Predator pups but I'm sure I'll be happy with the new stuff.

just went on EBAY to look at these guitar might get one

Take your time and wait. The two USA models on Ebay are overpriced. Two weeks ago I watched as two different red USA Predators went for $120 - $150 on Ebay, shipped in hard cases. I got mine on Craigslist locally in almost mint condition for $125. Maybe go for the black one - I'm not sure it'll get bid up much past the $125 initial bid price. It doesn't come with a case, though.

These are an excellent alternative to buying a new cheap guitar like an SX or a Bullet Strat. the workmanship is great and it's a solid guitar. Mine is going to be super sweet when I'm finished with it and I'll still have less into it than they're asking for either of the ones currently on Ebay.

If you do go for one make sure it's one with a maple fretboard. All of the USA models I have seen have a maple fretboard, while all of the import models have a rosewood board.

I picked up a red predator at a pawn shop last year. I love the neck and am actually pretty happy with the pickups. A really solid guitar for 85 bucks. I gig it every now and then.
