    That’s a beautiful guitar, man

I’ve had a thing for redwood since my early 20s. I had a summer job in ‘96 building and sanding redwood sign blanks. I really loved working with that wood. Sanding it out, watching that three dimensional grain pop. Really helped give me a great appreciation for interesting, attractive grain... something good redwood has in spades.

Way to go! Friendships are more important than guitars. But I do hope you get to keep it.

He’s asked for a couple more days to think about it. :(

I don't know you or your friend, but you obviously have a history there. And however this resolves, it's none of my business. Except we're here to BS about it.

I can't control my reaction. That's bad, an ungrateful way for him to react to a very generous and absolutely unnecessary gesture on your part. As a consideration for you, as a friend, he owes you a prompt answer. After all, you had a deal already. Did you agree to extend your deadline?

At some point, it has to be a done deal with no tears, no regrets. You would not be wrong to insist on concluding this by your original midnight deadline, one way or the other. He knows everything he needs to know about it, he just needs a little help getting off the fence.

Congrats. It is a really good looking guitar and I consider myself mildly jaded.

The white pick guard looks good and matches the tuner buttons. I think a tortoise would look equally good. I thought the dull gold aluminum kind would also look killer.

Here's a Fender Caballo with exotic wood that may give you some clues.

Wow, great looking rosewood tele. I would go with a black bakelite guard.
    Congrats.

    Pro tip:

Change your number immediately! Send him the $200 via western union. You can re establish your friendship in a couple of months.

That is a seriously beautiful Tele.

Very nice. The grain and reddish hue are unmistakable. Tort would look great and I recommend a Spitfire pickguard. They're pricey but now isn't the time to go cheap with wood that is most likely 1000+ years old.

Good to know. I go by Wildwoods often (honestly never been inside) on my way to Hensel's Ace hardware. Cheers!

Well, my buddy made his decision... $200 more and we're all good. That was the option I had hoped for. $500 was too cheap for that guitar and after I played it, I knew it. I wouldn't have felt right about getting it from a friend for that price. Now, if I bought it from anyone else, I'd be ecstatic over such a good deal. It's STILL a good deal at $700 and I'm quite happy right now. He asked for first option if I ever sell it. That's fair. All's well that ends well.

Oh, and here's the xmas present my wife got me. We really don't do xmas. If we want/need something, we just get it.

I went with Kluson vintage replacement locking tuners, Schaller strap locks, aged pearloid white pickguard (the binding is a bit more cream than white), chrome switch tip and a brown Franklin 3" strap and a Callaham vintage bridge assembly with compensated brass saddles. No pics yet as I just now ordered the parts.
