I change every Tele's jack cup.I Install the ones like AndrewG above posted a picture of.The screws are much better, and the jack is threaded to the cup.
Coincidentally I had an LP style socket fitted to a Baja Tele. I managed to rip off a chunk of finish when removing the original socket to tighten the nut-those stupid sticky-out 'wings' were the culprit. Luckily the new socket's plate covered the damage I caused.Well we can safely gather which one is cheaper for them to produce. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That being said,…….wouldn’t an LP style jack plate be the absolute cheapest(save the same piece in plastic)? Not to mention most effective?
Of all the things they’ll finally begrudgingly admit are archaic….WHOOPS there I go thinking again…
A bit of edge banding does the trick to shim the larger jack hole in import bodies. Have done it on multiple guitars and they hold the machined Rutters jack cups in just as firmly. You can add a bit of tight bond if you think you need to.I like the machined, press in jack cups that St. Leonidas used the first couple years. Marc Rutters makes/sells them and so does Glendale Guitars. Really classy looking - just be careful with import bodies (and Highway One bodies) as the bore is usually a smidge too large.
Why do all the Signature models not use them? Because it makes regular FMIC T styles look sketchy. :^)
