Just bought a new Brent Mason Tele, Amazing guitar, got it plekked at Sweetwater, One of the nicest playing guitars I've ever bought.
And my first new US Fender in over 15 years, Was kind of shocked they are still using the originals input, I hated that my right angle cords didn't fit,
So I installed an Electrosocket.. Which was kind of a pain, as I had to dig that stupid metal brace out of the cavity, also swapped out the gold control plate and knobs, which I didn't care for at all.

It's been said a million times, that Leo got it right the first time.. Not with the input jacks, is it just pride that won't let Fender use the Electrosocket? Or just cost prohibitive?

I like the machined, press in jack cups that St. Leonidas used the first couple years. Marc Rutters makes/sells them and so does Glendale Guitars. Really classy looking - just be careful with import bodies (and Highway One bodies) as the bore is usually a smidge too large.

Why do all the Signature models not use them? Because it makes regular FMIC T styles look sketchy. :^)

Next time I have a traditional jack cup go south, I might try drilling two tiny holes in the cup lip and set it with a couple of tiny screws like the electrosocket. (Yes I know this is a bit awkward in design terms). I have installed electrosockets on a couple of teles and they are a good way to go.

Have never had a problem with the Fender jack cup. Even if I did, wouldn’t touch a cheap arse electrothing  My factory Fender Teles all still have the original jack cup, T-style partscasters all get a Rutters Cup. I would much rather support a craftsman like Marc Rutter👍

It's funny, I've owned many Teles over the years and besides the fact that the right angle cord doesn't fit I have had ZERO trouble with the standard input jack / cup thingy

I know lots of folks out there have had issues but I never have..........................

Neutrik right angle ends fit into any Fender or replacement jack up.

And I won’t use anything else.

But you’re right, those stock jacks and cups are awful. And Leo fixed it with the Strat and he really fixed it at MusicMan.

I should have taken pictures before I removed it... There was no way any standard right angle cord, would have made a connection.

Uhhmm - I've been playing Tele's for over 5 decades, many many Tele's. I've never had a problem with the std jack and never had a desire to use an angled cord.

That being said the Electrosocket can be a nice replacement as long as the guitar body wood is not SOFT. Pulling the guitar cord OUT puts all the strain on those two small screws while the std jack has that bent clip inside the cavity pressing against the body inside the cavity. All the strain is on that bent clip. Don't overtighten or strip the wood screw ! 😀

Sometimes the first Mouse Trap is still the best !

I doubt it's a cost thing. If Fender ever decides to use Electrosockets, they will pass the cost along to the consumer

Well we can safely gather which one is cheaper for them to produce. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That being said,…….wouldn’t an LP style jack plate be the absolute cheapest(save the same piece in plastic)? Not to mention most effective?

Of all the things they’ll finally begrudgingly admit are archaic….WHOOPS there I go thinking again…

My right-angle Lava cable wouldn't fit all the way into my Tele's original jack cup. Admittedly, however, the "straight" part of the plug (that part that runs the same way as the cable) is a little chunky.

That's what I'm going to do. I have a Rutters cup in the now, but it's gotten chipped and ugly. I already have the LP-style plate on my Esquire, and it looks and works just fine.

I have performed this(out of frustration) and can confirm it works! Had an issue the day of a gig, couldn’t get it back in right/over-bent the tab, and didn’t have an ES on hand/couldn’t buy a Tele Jack plate of any kind locally, so I just got crafty. Worked great!

Cautionary notes; 1) Use a drill press if at all possible and secure the cup otherwise the bit will definitely wanna wander. 2) Make sure to use flat/countersunk head screws(like a deck screw) and countersink the holes if you can. The first go-round I used pan head screws simply b/c they were there, and they actually interfered with cable jack fitment(the housing of the jack bumped against the screw heads). I got wise and performed the aforementioned and she was good to go. So good that I never got around to replacing it with a stock cup or electrosocket jack.

Frontiersman style!

Yeah I think unless you’re worried about screw holes in the body/keeping things original, the plate is an absolute failsafe.

I guess I never gave it much thought. My cables fit, my wireless fits. I have never had one foul up on me like on my LPs and strats.
