IMG_0514.jpg ive been on an acoustic binge IMG_0515.jpg IMG_0514.jpg the last couple of months. Bought a Guild F-30 from 2011 that started the sickness and today I bought a Martin DXME. I realize this is the lower end of the Martin line but I think I'm gonna enjoy it. Great sound and playability!!

Those guitars are not out-sourced, but are made in their factory in Mexico. I worked at a Martin dealer for almost 15 years, and we sold hundreds of those, and I never saw that happen. And, FWIW, you could have had it repaired under warranty, unless it was your fault.

Did you buy that used, because the rosette next to the pickguard is worn away.

Yes it's used originally bought in 2004 according to paperwork. I haven't researched the serial number.

Yes this has the laminate body but seems well built. I took it to my luthier for a set up and new strings. He couldn't find any issues with it so hopefully I'll get some years out f it.

The X series were originally made in Nazareth, and then they moved production to Mexico after they built their factory there.

How rough do you have to be to do that?

It looks like it's just a paper label glued on, not an actual inlaid rosette, and apparently is applied over the finish. So, I guess aggressive picking is enough to do that. Have you seen Willie Nelson's trigger?

I've always looked down my nose at the HPL Martins (see avatar). That said, I took one, a DX1 I think, in a trade a little while back, and was VERY pleasantly surprised. The sound was Martin through and through, and the playability was quite good as well. The idea of "Formica" back and sides leaves me somewhat meh, that example did a lot to change my mind about the HPL Martins. As a daily beater, or campfire guitar, they show real value.

My brother has a no frills Martin D1 or something that he bought "well used". It's one of the best sounding Martins I've played and that's including the 3 or so years working for a Martin dealer.

You are correct it's just glued on not an expense Martin. I played it with the full band last night through a tube pre amp into a fishman amp and it sounded great. This may be the best $250 I've ever spent on an acoustic.

The 1 series had lighter and different bracing than many other Martins. I had a D1R with rosewood back and sides. It was the least expensive Martin with rosewood, and it sounded awesome! I wish I still had it.
