30 years of D18’s only figured time to change it up a bit. Picked up this beauty from Gruhn Guitars yesterday. She sounds as good as she looks! E187E5D3-28DC-4E44-843B-5110220B5C03.jpeg BD683351-DACF-4C1E-93F0-F2B1C8C2E1E5.jpeg 2328C53D-401A-4BAF-9F5F-9EE4BDBE7075.jpeg

So this is the wider 0000 vs. 000 size?

I have a 000-28 style Blueridge ( nice guitar, loud!)

and my buddy has the 0000- size Martin M-36 which almost plays itself ( not as loud as mine, but better tone balance, I think, nice low setup)

    Beautiful guitar there enjoy!

    BTW,
I found out in conversation, getting 'yelled' at, by bluegrass purists (at a frequent jam, me being the 'new guy', years ago), that a Gibson is a 'sunburst', and a Martin is a 'shadetop!'

So, I just found other Bluegrassers to play with!

The custom 0000's are real sleepers. I've had one since 1993 and the base response opens up much slower than a Dreadnaught. I still have my hotrod D-18 for jamming. Excellent play Gallagher!

    Beautiful guitar - congratulations!

10 years ago my wife suggested we drive to the Martin factory, and then that we "just look around" at the guitars at Nazareth Music about a mile or so from the factory. I fell in love with an M-36 there (also 0000 size) that just happened to be at a big discount so that the price was well over our budget, instead of ridiculously over the budget. And she pushed me to buy it - will never forget that day!

That was the GAS ending steel string for me, and the only one I own now. Like @Chiogtr4x says, terrific tonal balance. Folk stuff, jazz comping, Django style, anything I throw at it sounds great, and much more comfortable than a dreadnought.

That's a very fine instrument you have there!

    I have a Martin M-21 and it's a keeper.

Yes it’s a little wider than the 000. Also has the regular length scale. I believe the 000 is a little shorter.

It sounds really nice and deep. Double drop D tuning sounds like a piano. I’ll never get rid of my D18’s though.

Lovely! I have a 2011 OM28 Marquis that I love. There is something about Martins. Not all of them a 5 star, but when you find the "one" you know it.
